(Peru, Neb.) – The Peru State softball team managed to get a win in a double header with Concordia University on Wednesday despite committing seven errors in each contest.
The Bulldogs took game one 8-5 while the 'Cats came back with eight runs in the top of the seventh inning in the nightcap to win 9-6.
With the split, Peru State is now 5-7 on the year while Concordia is now 8-9.
Game One Action Peru State got on the board first with a solo home run by
Leah Quick (Kansas City, Mo.). In the bottom of the inning, the Bulldogs scored three to lead 3-1.
Lauren Johnson pitched the second game for the win over
Concordia Wednesday in Seward - Johnson's home town Neither team would score until the bottom of the fourth inning as Concordia plated five runs to move out to an 8-1 lead.
The Bobcats did get back on the scoreboard in the top half of the fifth inning. Quick doubled to right field to start the inning with
Halle Holloway (Waco) getting on with a walk. After an out,
Sydney Webb (Lincoln) singled up the middle to drive in Quick with Holloway stopping at second. After another pop-up out,
Brittany McNeese (Gretna) homered to left field to cut the deficit to 8-5.
That would prove to be the final score as neither team mounted a serious scoring threat during the rest of the game.
Concordia scored their eight runs on ten hits and committed just one error. The 'Cats scored their five runs on eight hits, but had seven miscues.
Quick led the team by going three for four with one RBI. McNeese added two hits and three RBI.
Nicole Reznicek (Omaha) suffered the loss on the mound. Reznicek allowed ten hits, eight runs – four earned, and had three strikeouts.
CONCORDIA BOX SCORE GAME ONE Game Two Action The second game was again marred by errors and was strange in terms of its scoring, although Peru State had opportunities early to score.
Concordia scored one run in the first, one in the second, one in the third, and one in the fifth to take a 4-0 lead.
In the top of the sixth,
Cheyenne Dalrymple (Stockton, Calif.) doubled to left field to start the inning. After an out,
Molly Holbrook (Lincoln) reached on an error and went to second with Dalrymple scoring.
Shelbie Hess (Phoenix) came in to run for Holbrook and advanced to third on a ground out, but could not score as the next batter grounded out as well. At this point, it was 4-1 Bulldogs.
Concordia would add two runs in the bottom of the sixth to lead 6-1. But, then the strange things happened for the Bobcats in the top of the seventh.
After the first out of the inning,
Brittany Harward (Orem, Utah) singled to third base. Quick reached on a fielding error with Harward advancing to second. Holloway would reach on an error to load the bases. After a pop-up out, Webb hit a grand slam to cut the score to 6-5. Holbrook followed with a solo home run to tie the score at 6-6. McNeese followed with the third home run in a row and now the Bobcats led 7-6.
Meghan McPolin (Orland Park, Ill.) singled up the middle and
Jenna Gruber (Lincoln) reached on a walk. When Harward walked, the bases were loaded. Quick earned a walk with McPolin scoring making it 8-6. Another walk followed for Holloway with Gruber scoring to put the Bobcats up 9-6. That would be all of the scoring as Peru State left the bases loaded.

Peru State scored its nine runs on 11 hits and again committed seven errors. The Bulldogs scored their six runs on nine hits and had three miscues.
Quick, Dalrymple, and Holbrook each had two hits to lead Peru State. Webb led the team with four RBI.
Senior
Lauren Johnson (Seward) saw her first extensive action on the mound and picked up her first win during her final year at Peru State. Johnson allowed nine hits, six runs, and two earned runs.
CONCORDIA GAME TWO BOX SCORE Upcoming Games Peru State hosts Nebraska Wesleyan University on Thursday in a double header scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. Presently, the Prairie Wolves are 0-6 on the year.
Saturday, the Bobcats will travel to Springfield, Mo., to face Evangel University in a double header scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. Currently, the Crusaders are 6-5 pm the season.
