(Peru, Neb.) – After winning two games earlier in the week while shooting well, that shooting touch was missing on Saturday as the Bobcat women's basketball team fell on the road 71-52 to Culver-Stockton (C-SC). The 'Cats only shot 26.3% in the game and were out-rebounded as well in Canton, Mo.
With the win, the Wildcats improved to 8-3 overall and 3-2 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. Peru State fell to 4-8 overall and is now 1-4 in the Heart.
Justice Daniel First Quarter ActionJustice Daniel (Olathe, Kan.) hit a bucket with 8:31 in the first to give Peru State its only lead in the game. The Wildcats would score five straight points before
Jackie Beaugard (Omaha) would hit one of two free throws. After another C-SC score, Daniel would drain a trey with 4:52 left in the quarter to pull Peru State within one at 7-6. Culver-Stockton would go on to outscore the Bobcats 13-5 to lead 20-11 at the end of the period.
Second Quarter Action In the second period, the Wildcats would score the first bucket to go up by double digits at 22-11 and later led 26-16 with 4:31 left in the first half.
Celine Jolicoeur (Elmont, N.Y.) would hit a bucket and then
Rashaun Casey (Rogers, Ark.) drained a three and suddenly, the Bobcats were back within five at 26-21 with 2:25 to go in the stanza. C-SC would again stretch its lead back to 11 at the half leading 34-23 after the first 20 minutes.
Rashaun Casey Third Quarter Action A 10-0 run to start the quarter for Culver-Stockton made it a 44-23 advantage for the Wildcats. Peru State would struggle in the quarter as they only scored seven points and trailed 53-30 after 30 minutes of play.
Fourth Quarter Action The Wildcats increased their lead to 30 at 62-32 with 7:32 left in the game.
Jackie Robles (Parlier, Calif.) hit a three-pointer on an assist from
Sydney Wilkinson (St. Joseph, Mo.) to stop the run. Peru State would continue to cut into the Wildcat lead, but it was too late for the 'Cats.
Jackie BeaugardCULVER-STOCKTON GAME BOOK Team Statistics The Wildcats made 26 of 59 field goals for 44.1% including making just 1 of 7 from behind the arc (all in the first half) for 14.3%. At the free throw line, C-SC was 18 of 28 for 64.3%. Peru State made 15 of 57 for 26.3% and made 5 of 25 three-pointers for 20%. The Bobcats made 17 of 25 at the charity stripe for 68%.
Culver-Stockton had a big rebounding advantage as they grabbed 50 boards compared to Peru State's 32. Both teams had 18 turnovers with the Bobcats blocking two shots. The Wildcats grabbed nine steals while Peru State managed to get only three which is a season-low.
Individual Statistics Daniel finished with 21 points on 6 of 12 from the floor including making 3 of 6 treys. Also, Daniel was perfect at the free throw line making all six. No other Bobcat finished in double figures with Casey adding seven.
Beaugard, Robles, and
Kiley Guerue (Morrill) each snared five rebounds with Daniel adding four. Wilkinson dished out four assists with Daniel handing out two. Beaugard and Robles each had one blocked shot. Wilkinson, Casey, and Guerue each were credited with one steal.
Upcoming Games Peru State will have one more game in 2015 as they will host Friends University (Kan.) next Friday at 4 p.m. Currently, the Cardinals are 8-5. Earlier in the season, Friends beat Peru State 77-59 in Wichita.
The 'Cats will then be off until 2016. They will start the new year on the road on Jan. 6 when they will travel to Olathe, Kan., to face MidAmerica Nazarene at 5:30 p.m.
The Bobcats first home game in 2016 will be on Saturday, Jan. 9, when they host Missouri Valley at 2 p.m.
