(Peru, Neb.) – After the game was tied at 12-12, the Bobcat men's basketball team outscored the home team Culver-Stockton (C-SC) Wildcats 35-13 on their way to a 90-78 win in Canton, Mo., Saturday night.
Peru State evened its season mark at 6-6 and improved to 3-2 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. With the loss, the Wildcats have exactly the same marks.
Quantice Hunter First Half Action Quantice Hunter (Chicago) started the game with an old-fashioned three-point play and then followed that up with a steal and a fast-break bucket to put the Bobcats in a 5-0 lead with 18:52 to go in the first half. The Wildcats would counter with an 8-0 run of their own before
Riak Bol (Omaha) hit a bucket in the paint on an assist from
Corday Sims (Chicago) to cut the deficit to 8-7 at the 16:26 mark.
C-SC would score another bucket before
Jamar Cannon (Inglewood, Calif.) countered with a trey on an assist from
Kris Frazier (Cleveland) to tie the game at 10-10 with 14:47 left in the half. Another bucket by Hunter would put the Bobcats on top only to see the Wildcats tie it at 12-12.
Later, the Wildcats would have their last lead at 17-16 with 12:22 remaining in the half. After grabbing a defensive rebound, Cannon would score on the fast break to give Peru State the lead for good at 18-17 at the 11:58 mark.
Corday Sims Peru State would score the next 14 points in a row with Cannon draining a trey off an assist from
Jeff Neverson (Brooklyn, N.Y.) to lead 32-17 with 9:30 to go in the first period.
The Bobcats would build the lead to 22 at 47-25 after a two-pointer by
Darwin Ellis (Brooklyn, N.Y.) with 4:23 left in the half. C-SC would cut the deficit back to 17, but free throws down the stretch by Sims, Neverson, and Hunter would put Peru State up again by 22 at halftime as they led 52-30.
Second Half Action Ellis would hit a trey to start the second half and then Neverson would score in the paint on an assist from Bol to start the second half. Peru State led 57-30 after the first 55 seconds.
The Wildcats would make small runs, but Peru State would still lead 63-40 after Sims would hit a pair of free throws at the 14:40 mark in the second half.
Peru State would still lead by 20 at 75-55 after Hunter dished an assist to Sims in the paint with 8:58 left in the game.
Culver-Stockton would cut that 20-point deficit in half at 82-72 with 2:28 left, but that would be as close as the Wildcats would get in the game.

Jamar CannonPeru State outshot the Wildcats in all three phases of the game. The Bobcats made 27 of 58 field goals for 46.6% including an impressive 8 of 15 from long range for 53.3%. At the charity stripe, Peru State made 28 of 37 tries for 75.7%. Culver-Stockton made 27 of 71 field goals for 38% while making 8 of 25 three-point tries for 25%. At the free throw line, the Wildcats were 16 of 26 for 61.5%.
The Bobcats also held the edge in rebounding by grabbing 48 boards compared to C-SC's 36. Peru State did commit more turnovers than the Wildcats, 20 to 14. The Bobcats blocked six shots while Culver-Stockton had five blocks. The Wildcats had 11 steals while Peru State had five.
Individual Statistics Three Bobcats finished in double figures with Hunter leading the way with a game- and season-high 26 points. Hunter was 9 of 13 from the floor, including 2 of 3 from long range. At the free throw line, Hunter was 6 of 8. Sims and Cannon each finished with 19 points.
Sims grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds with Varney adding nine and Frazier eight. Sims and Cannon each dished out two assists while Cannon led the team with two steals. Frazier blocked three shots with Hunter blocking two and Varney adding one block.
Upcoming Games Peru State will be off until 2016 when they will travel to face MidAmerica Nazarene in Olathe, Kan., on Wednesday, Jan. 6 at 7:30 p.m.
The Bobcats' first home game in 2016 will be Saturday, Jan. 9, at 4 p.m. when Missouri Valley visits the Al Wheeler Activity Center.
