(Peru, Neb.) – The brooms were out on Sunday afternoon at the Centennial Complex Baseball Field as the Bobcats took a four-game series from the visiting Benedictine College Ravens.
On Saturday, Peru State won 21-3 and 5-4. Sunday's results were similar as the 'Cats won 19-2 and 8-5.
With the four wins, Peru State improved to 22-11 overall and 10-6 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC). The 10-6 mark puts the Bobcats tied for second in their division with Baker University, with both teams' two games behind division-leading MidAmerica Nazarene University.
The Ravens fell to 6-23 overall and 4-12 in the HAAC.
Saturday Game One Action The 'Cats would score all the runs they would really need to win the first game in the first inning, but went on to a season-high run total.
In the bottom of the first,
(Omaha) reached on a walk. Alonzo followed with another walk and both runners would advance a base when Glass laid down a sacrifice bunt. A double to deep left-center by Melendez would drive in both base runners to give the 'Cats a 7-0 lead at the end of the second inning.
In the top of the fourth, the Ravens would score their first run of the game. That obviously made the Bobcats mad as the Peru State bats came to life again in the bottom of the inning.
After the first out of the inning, Glass single to right-center. Glass advanced to second on a wild pitch. After another out, Glass advanced to third on another wild pitch. Santiesteban singled to left-center to score Glass. With a stolen base, Santiesteban went to second. Barnes reached on a walk to give the 'Cats two base runners.
(Opa Locka, Fla.) came in to pinch hit and was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Croushorn singled thru the hole at shortstop to score Walston. After a strike-out,
(San Jacinto, Calif.) won his fifth game of the season as he threw the first six innings of the game. Navarro allowed three hits – two runs – one earned and struck out five.
(Seattle, Wash.) had his first start of the year and pitched four innings. Duncan gave up five hits, two earned runs and struck out three. Tim Patterson
(Destin, Fla.) relieved Duncan and did not allow any hits in his two innings while striking out three.
Upcoming Games
The Bobcats will have two non-conference nine-inning games during the week before heading back into conference action on the weekend.
On Tuesday, Peru State will host Doane College at 4 p.m. Presently, the Tigers are 29-7 and have won 13 in a row. In the NAIA Baseball Coaches' second Top 25 Poll, Doane was ranked 19th, having previously been receiving votes.
Thursday, the Bobcats will be traveling to Sioux City, Iowa, to face the Morningside College Mustangs at 4 p.m. The Mustangs are presently 13-18 and earlier dropped a double header at Peru State on March 14.
This weekend, the 'Cats will host the Avila University Eagles. Normally, the Eagles are contenders for HAAC post-season play, but they are struggling at this point in the season. Currently, Avila is 12-16 overall and 2-12 in the HAAC. However, the Eagles won their last game, a 2-1 victory over Western Division leading MidAmerica Nazarene.
The teams will play a double header each day beginning at 1 p.m. Between games on Saturday, the Bobcat seniors will be recognized.
