(Peru, Neb.) – The Peru State softball team split a double header with Benedictine College on Monday in Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) action which was twice postponed due to Mother Nature. The Bobcats took the first game 11-8 and then dropped the second game 7-4 in what was the last conference play in the regular season.
With the split, Peru State is now 29-22 on the season and 8-10 in the HAAC while the Ravens finished 9-9 in conference play and 16-21 overall. The action determined that Benedictine would be the fifth seed in the upcoming HAAC post-season tournament this week with the Bobcats finishing as the sixth seed.
Game One ActionÂ
Neither team scored in the first inning although both teams left a runner on base.
In the top of the second,
(Seward) earned the win by tossing the first five innings for the Bobcats. Johnson allowed six hits, six runs – three earned, and struck out one.
(Lincoln) singled to shallow left-center to cut the Benedictine lead to 7-4, the eventual final score.
The Ravens scored their seven runs on six hits and committed one error. Peru State scored their four runs on eight hits and had three miscues.
All eight hits by Peru State were evenly distributed with Holloway, Holbrook, and Tracy each being credited for one RBI.
Brittany McNeese (Gretna) suffered the loss for Peru State. McNeese tossed a complete game throwing six innings while allowing six hits, seven runs – five earned, and struck out one.
BENEDICTINE GAME TWO BOX SCORE Upcoming Games The Bobcats will be the sixth seed and will face third-seed Evangel University at 4 p.m. on Thursday in Olathe, Kan. All first round games will be played at 4 p.m.
Since it is a double elimination tournament, all eight teams will play again Friday morning at 11 a.m. Win or lose, the Bobcats would face either second-seeded MidAmerica Nazarene University or seventh-seeded Culver-Stockton College. The rest of the tournament will take place on Thursday, Friday, and will conclude on Saturday, Mother Nature allowing.
