A road win was the goal for the Peru State women's basketball team and they made their goal on Saturday. The Bobcats topped the Culver-Stockton College Wildcats in Canton, Mo., 72-68, keeping their post-season play hopes alive.
Peru State improved to 7-19 overall and 5-10 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference. The 'Cats are currently in seventh in the ten-team league with the top eight teams making the post-season tournament.
Culver-Stockton was eliminated from post-season play with the loss as they fell to 1-15 in the HAAC and 4-20 overall.
put Peru State on the board first by converting one of two free throws. Culver-Stockton responded with a bucket to take an early 2-1 lead.

After a Wildcat free throw tied the game,
Shelbie Hess (Phoenix) nailed a three-pointer making it 6-3 Peru State. The Bobcats stretched their lead to five at 12-7 before the Wildcats went on a 6-0 run to take their final lead of the first half at 13-12 with 12:59 left in the half.
A three-point bucket by
Rachel Blair (Hubbard) put Peru State on top at 15-13 and the Bobcats never trailed the rest of the half.
With 9:29 left in the first 20 minutes, Tate completed an old-fashioned three-point play to give Peru State a 25-17 lead, the largest lead of the half.
At the end of the first half, the Bobcats maintained a four-point lead as
Sydney Wilkinson (St. Joseph, Mo.) hit a two-point shot giving Peru State a 39-35 lead going into the break.
The second half was even tighter than the first half as there were five ties and six lead changes. Culver-Stockton had tied the game several times and had its largest lead at 54-51 with 6:43 left in the game.
A trey by Hess tied it back up at 54-54 40 seconds later. A two-pointer by Tate with 5:14 to go gave Peru State the lead for good, although the Wildcats did get back within one at 61-60 with 1:26 remaining.
Another trey by Hess put Peru State up 64-60 with 1:13 left with Tate being credited for the assist. The Bobcats increased the lead to nine at 71-62 as they were able to convert free throws.
Peru State survived a late Wildcat rally to win 72-68.
Team Statistics
The Bobcats shot the ball well against Culver-Stockton. Peru State made 24 of 56 field goals for 42.9%, including 8 of 16 from behind the arc for 50%. At the free throw line, Peru State made 16 of 22 for 72.7%.
The Wildcats did have a better field goal percentage as they hit 29 of 64 tries for 45.3%, but only managed to make 3 of 11 three-point tries for 27.3%. At the charity stripe, Culver-Stockton converted 7 of 14 tries for 50%.
Culver-Stockton did out-rebound the Bobcats 42 to 34. The turnovers were nearly the same as Peru State had 16 compared to the Wildcats' 17. The Bobcats had 11 steals and four blocks while Culver-Stockton had six steals and one block.
Individual Statistics
Three Bobcats finished in double figures and were led by Hess's game-high 22 points. Hess made 8 of 13 field goals, including 4 of 5 from downtown. Tate finished with 15 points while Blair added 12.
Peterson led all rebounds with nine boards while
Karlee Stuart (Las Animas, Colo.) and Tate each had six. Tate dished out a game-high eight assists while Wilkinson had four.
Stuart had a game-high four steals while Hess, Tate, and
Sydney Young (Omaha) each had two. Peterson was credited with a game-high two blocks with
Brianna Madrid (Glendale, Ariz.) and Blair each adding one block.

Career Record Update
Tate has now moved into second in the all-time career assists Top Ten with 383, putting her only behind Alison Hill who finished with 401 while playing in 2004-2007.
In addition, Tate has moved up to fourth in career steals as she now has 208. Also, Tate has moved up to third in career free throws made with 308 and is tied for fourth in career games played with 117.
Upcoming Games
As their last Thursday night's game was postponed due to a power outage, Peru State will be playing their final three regular season games this week. All three games are against ranked opponents and the three teams at the top of the conference.
On Tuesday, MidAmerica Nazarene University will be the foe in the make-up game. The game with the 15
th-ranked Pioneers is scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. Presently, MidAmerica Nazarene is 21-3 overall and 13-2 in conference play.
Thursday, Peru State will be traveling to Baldwin City, Kan., to face the HAAC's top team, the Baker University Wildcats. Baker is presently 15-1 in conference play and is 22-5 overall. The Wildcats are ranked 13
th in the NAIA. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
It will be Senior Day on Saturday, March 1, when Peru State hosts Central Methodist University. Currently, the Eagles are third in the conference and are 10-6 in the HAAC and 19-7 overall. The lone senior,
Jasmine Tate, will be recognized prior to the game which is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.
