Bobcat Softball Sweeps Concordia

(Peru, Neb.) – Facing a Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) team, the Peru State Bobcat softball team swept a double header on the road against Concordia University in Seward on Thursday.
 
The Bobcats took the first game 6-1 and the second 8-0.   With the wins, Peru State improved to 9-17 while Concordia fell to 8-13.
 
Game One Action
 
Neither team scored in the first two innings, but Peru State got things going in the top of the third.  Casee Ford (Fort Collins, Colo.) got on board with a walk.  After a fly ball out, Ford stole second.  Tracy Bohlmeyer (Fairbury) also got on base with a walk and then both runners advanced when Tesla Oldfield (Nebraska City) laid down a sacrifice bunt.  Miranda Lyndes (Peyton, Colo.) reached on an error and both runners scored to put Peru State up 2-0.  Emily Maresh (Central City) stepped to the plate and hit a homer to center field to make it 4-0 Bobcats.
 
After holding Concordia scoreless in the bottom of the third, the Bobcats would strike again in the top of the fourth.  Cheyenne Dalrymple (Stockton, Calif.) hit a home run to center field, making it 5-0 Bobcats.  Samantha Walker (Peyton, Colo.) singled down the left-field line and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt by Ford.  After the second out, Bohlmeyer singled up the middle to drive in Walker.  Bohlmeyer stole second, but was stranded as the inning ended with a pop-up.  At the end of four, Peru State led 6-0.
 
Neither team would score in either the fifth or sixth, but Concordia broke up the shutout by scoring one run in the bottom of the seventh.
 
The Bobcats scored their six runs on nine hits and committed two errors.  The Bulldogs managed their one run on three hits and committed one error.
 
Bohlmeyer and Maresh each had two hits to lead Peru State with Maresh having two RBI to lead the team.
 
Seward native Lauren Johnson earned the win for the Bobcats, her fifth of the season.  Johnson pitched seven innings, allowing just three hits, one run – not earned, and struck out five.

Game Two Action
 
The Bobcats shutout Concordia in the second game and scored their runs in the second, fifth, and seventh innings.
 
In the second inning, Dalrymple reached on a walk and advanced to second on a wild pitch.  Walker also reached on a walk and both runners advanced on another wild pitch.  After two outs, Bohlmeyer singled through the left side that scored Dalrymple, giving Peru State a 1-0 lead.
 
Toni Blackwell (Papillion) reached base with a walk, but was caught stealing.  Bohlmeyer singled up the middle and went to second when Oldfield singled to center field.  Toni Moffatt (Morden, Alberta, Canada) reached on an error while the other runners advanced one base each.  Maresh hit a sacrifice fly to center field and it was deep enough to score Bohlmeyer.  Devon Massengale (Elkhorn) singled to center field to drive in Oldfield and Moffatt, making it 4-0 Bobcats.
 
Peru State extended their lead in the top of the seventh by adding four runs.  After the first out, Maresh earned a walk and Lyndes came in as a pinch runner.  Massengale singled through the left side with Lyndes advancing to second.  Holly Kurz (Elkhorn) came in to run for Massengale.  After the second out, Walker singled up the middle, driving in Lyndes, with Kurz advancing to third and Walker going to second on the play.  Abbie Moser (Lincoln) singled through the right side, getting two RBI in the process.  After the final out, the 'Cats led 8-0.
 
The Bobcats scored their eight runs on 11 hits and had one error.  Concordia was held to just three hits and committed three errors.
 
Bohlmeyer went three for four and had one RBI to lead Peru State.  Oldfield, Massengale, and Blackwell each had two hits with Massengale gaining two RBI.  Moser also added two RBI in the Bobcat win.
 
Massengale earned her fourth win of the year as she pitched seven innings, giving up just three hits and striking out four.

Upcoming Games
 
The Bobcats have home double headers during the weekend.  On Saturday, Peru State is scheduled to host Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) foe Baker University from Baldwin City, Kan.  Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
 
Then, on Sunday, Peru State will host non-conference GPAC foe, Hastings College, with the games scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
 
On Tuesday, Peru State will travel to HAAC opponent, MidAmerica Nazarene University, in Olathe, Kan., for a double header beginning at 4 p.m.
