Bobcat Softball to Compete in HAAC Post-Season Tournament

(Peru, Neb.) – By finishing fifth in the ten-team Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) regular season, the Peru State Bobcat softball team will be participating in the upcoming post-season tournament.

The 2013 HAAC Softball Post-Season Tournament will be held at the Blue Valley Rec Complex in Overland Park, Kan.  The tournament format was altered by conference officials this year due to the havoc Mother Nature wreaked on the regular-season play.  In the preferred format, the tournament would have started this past weekend with a best of three series with the top four seeds hosting.

However, this year's format will take the top eight teams to one location and will be played on Friday and Saturday, May 3 and 4, again, with Mother Nature's permission.  Four games will be played at 1 p.m. with four more games played at 3 p.m.  Two more elimination games will be played at 5 p.m. on Friday.

The seedings and pairings for the first round include:  first-seeded Central Methodist University (31-10-1 overall, 17-1 HAAC) versus eight-seeded Graceland University (10-22, 6-12), second-seeded MidAmerica Nazarene University (26-12, 14-4) versus seventh-seeded Missouri Valley College (12-18, 6-12), third-seeded Baker University (22-13, 12-6) versus sixth-seeded Benedictine College (21-19, 8-10), and fourth-seeded Evangel University (28-12, 11-7) versus fifth-seeded Peru State (15-25, 9-9).  All four games will be played at 1 p.m.

Then, at 3 p.m. on Friday, the winners and losers will play.  At 5 p.m., the losers of the winners' bracket games will face the winners in the losers' bracket.
