Bobcat Baseball Splits with MNU

(Peru, Neb.) – The light snow and ice on Monday morning forced the Peru State Bobcat baseball to team to play their second “home” double header in Olathe, Kansas, on MidAmerica Nazarene University's (MNU) field.  Despite having to travel, the Bobcats came away with another split in the games, winning the first game 3-2 and dropping the second game, 4-0.

Following the split, Peru State is 5-5 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) and 11-12 overall.    The Pioneers' records are now 14-12 overall and 7-3 in the HAAC.

Game One Action

While both teams had a few scoring opportunities throughout the first game, all of the scoring came in the third and then Peru State scored in the fourth.

The Pioneers, as the visitors, scored two runs in the top of the third.  In the bottom of the inning, Peru State matched MNU by plating two runs as well.  Ronald Tanner (Havertown, Pa.) doubled down the left field line.  Tyler Croushorn (Omaha) reached on a walk and both runners advanced when Aubrey Dezarn (Las Vegas, Nev.) hit a sacrifice bunt and was out at first.  Then, Derek Voigt (Auburn, Wash.) loaded the bases with a walk.  Randy Santiesteban (Hialeah, Fla.) singled to left driving in Tanner with Croushorn and Voigt advancing one base.  Phil Lial (Las Vegas, Nev.) also singled, this time to center, and Croushorn scored to tie the game at 2-2.  The next two Bobcats struck out leaving the bases loaded.

In the bottom of the fourth, Tyler Cherin (Seattle, Wash.) reached first with a walk.  After a strikeout, Cherin advanced to second on a wild pitch.  Following another strikeout, Dezarn singled to left, bringing home Cherin to give the 'Cats the lead at 3-2 and the eventual win.

Peru State scored its three runs on six hits and committed two errors.  MNU managed to get two runs on just one hits and also committed two errors.

Dezarn, Voigt, Santiesteban, Lial, Ryan Grabowski (Omaha), and Tanner each had one hit for Peru State with Dezarn, Santiesteban, and Lial being credited with one RBI each.
