Game Action

After giving up a run to the Prairie Wolves in the top of the first inning, the Bobcats settled down and shut NWU out for the next five innings.

In the bottom of the third inning, Peru State would get on the scoreboard.  After the first out of the inning, Ronnie Tanner (Havertown, Pa.) doubled to right-center and later advanced to third with a stolen base.  On Derek Voigt's (Auburn, Wash.) single to shallow right, Tanner scored to tie the game at 1-1.  Voigt would go to second on a wild pitch and then later scored when Randy Santiesteban (Hialeah, Fla.) singled to left.  Santiesteban advanced to second as the Prairie Wolves tried to get Voigt at home plate.  After a pop out for the second out, Jake Wright (Freeport, Fla.) singled to shallow center, but it was deep enough for Santiesteban to score, making it 3-1 Peru State.

The 'Cats would add a run in the bottom of the fifth.  Santiesteban reached with a walk and went to second on a sacrifice bunt by Phil Lial (Las Vegas, Nev.).  On a single down the right field line by Tyler Cherin (Seattle, Wash.), Santiesteban scored giving the Bobcats a 4-1 lead.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, Peru State would add an insurance run.  After the first out, Tyler Croushorn (Omaha) singled to right-center and went to second on a wild pitch.  Tanner reached on a walk and then Voigt would load the bases with a fielder's choice.  Croushorn would eventually score on a wild throw, putting Peru State up 5-1.

The Prairie Wolves would make it interesting in the top of the seventh as they would score two runs, but left two on base.  Then, in the top of the ninth, NWU would add one more run and again left two on base and the Bobcats prevailed 5-4.
