Bobcats and Wildcats Split HAAC Crossover Series

(Peru, Neb.) – Playing in another cloudy and cold set of conditions, the Peru State Bobcats split a double header in Canton, Mo., against the Culver-Stockton Wildcats on Saturday.

The Bobcats won game one 4-0 while the Wildcats took the second, 1-0.

Randy Santiesteban
Peru State is now 9-10 overall and 3-3 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) while Culver-Stockton is now 10-13 overall and 2-4 in the HAAC.  This was a crossover division double header meaning the first game was seven innings and the second game was nine innings.

Game One Action

After the first out of the inning, Aubrey Dezarn (Las Vegas, Nev.) was issued a walk.  After another out, Dezarn stole second and came home when Randy Santiesteban (Hialeah, Fla.) doubled to left center.  At the end of one, the 'Cats led 1-0.

In the top of the third, Tyler Croushorn (Omaha) singled to center field and went to second when Dezarn reached base with a bunt single.  After another out, Santiesteban singled to left field, driving in Croushorn, putting Peru State up 2-0.

Jake Wright (Freeport, Fla.) singled up the middle to start things for Peru State in the top of the fourth.  George Palko (Kent, Wash.) came in to run for Wright and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt.  Ronald Tanner (Havertown, Pa.) singled through the left side and both runners advanced on the throw.  Croushorn followed with a double to drive in Palko with Tanner moving to third.  Dezarn flied to out to deep center, but earned the RBI as Tanner scored.

The Bobcats scored their four runs on ten hits while committing two errors.

Wright and Santiesteban each had three hits in the game one win with Santiesteban driving in two RBI.  Croushorn added two hits.
Derek Wright

Marshall Klontz (Auburn, Wash.) earned his second HAAC win as he threw five innings, giving up five hits and struck out four.  Danny Borst (Moreno Valley, Calif.) came in to relieve Klontz and threw the final two innings.  Borst did not give up any hits and struck out three.

Game Two Action

It was somewhat of a pitcher's duel in game two.  The reason for the “somewhat” is that Peru State pounded 11 hits in the game and in five different innings, the 'Cats left two on base, several times in scoring position.

The Wildcats scored the lone run in the bottom of the sixth and it was enough for the 1-0 win.

Derek Voigt (Auburn, Wash.) was four of five in the second game with one double.  Lial went two of four.

Brandon Mears (Orange Park, Fla.) took the loss for Peru State after throwing a complete game.  Mears gave up five hits, one run, and struck out three.
