(Peru, Neb.) – With a three-set sweep of the home-standing Avila University Eagles on Thursday night, the Peru State Bobcat volleyball team won their 19
th match of the season. This matches the most wins of the 2008 and 2010 teams and the most since 2004.
Peru State won 25-16, 25-14, 25-21 and improved to 19-11 on the season and 2-3 in the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC). The Eagles fell to 6-21 overall and 0-7 in the HAAC.
Game Statistics
The Bobcats had a good night hitting as a team as they finished with a .321 percentage, getting 43 kills on 109 swings with only eight errors.
Rachael West (El Dorado, Kan.) and
Lindsey Nelson (Granite Bay, Calif.) each had eight kills to lead a balanced attack. West finished the match hitting .583.
Carrie Lierz (Holton, Kan.) added seven kills while
Brittany Peterson (Orem, Utah) added six while hitting a team-high .600.
Bre Brandt (Papillion) finished with five kills.
Courtney Jurek (Bellevue) and
Hope Harsh (Cassoday, Kan.) led the team in setting with 17 and 16 assists respectively.
Angie Bowers (Alda) was a terror at the serving line as she finished the match with five service aces.
Paige Young (Gretna) added three service aces while
Mallory Hull (Morse Bluff), Jurek and
Jordyn Lukasiewicz (Farwell) each had one.
Hull led the team with 15 digs while Bowers and Harsh each finished with 14. Lukasiewicz added ten more digs.
Peterson had two block assists while Nelson and Lierz each added one.

Upcoming Matches
Peru State is in Olathe, Kan., on Saturday to take on the league-leading MidAmerica Nazarene University Pioneers. The Pioneers are 6-0 in the HAAC and 20-2 overall. MidAmerica Nazarene is ranked sixth in the NAIA. Game time is scheduled for 2 p.m.
On Tuesday, Oct. 29, the Bobcats will host the Graceland University YellowJackets at 7 p.m. in the Al Wheeler Activity Center (AWAC). There will be a special presentation honoring YellowJacket Kelsi Martin and Peru State football player Mitch Boshart prior to the game. The pair was named the NAIA's A.O. Duer Award winners, as well as, the HAAC's Champions of Character winners last year.
