Bellevue Softball Shuts Out PSC

(Peru, Neb.) – The former conference rival, Bellevue University, was not a very nice guest when playing the Peru State College (PSC) softball team on Wednesday.

The Bruins swept a double header 7-0 and 8-0 from the Bobcats and improved to 32-14 on the year.  This week, the Bruins were receiving votes in the most recent NAIA rankings, putting them 31st overall.

With the two losses, Peru State fell to 25-21.

Game One Info

The Bobcats stayed with the Bruins through the first four innings as they only gave up one run on a home run in the top of the second inning.

In the bottom of the fourth, a triple by Brittany Hoock (Elkhorn), with one out, gave PSC a good scoring opportunity and  chance to tie it, but the 'Cats were unable to do so.

Then, in the fifth inning, Bellevue put up three runs to go ahead 4-0 and later added three more in the seventh to claim the 7-0 win.

Emily Maresh (Central City) went two for three to lead PSC hitting-wise.

Danae Disney (Blue Springs) started on the mound for the 'Cats and was fine through the first four innings only giving up the one run, but Bellevue was able to get to Disney in the fifth.  Disney finished four and two-thirds innings, giving up seven hits and four runs – all earned.  Disney suffered the loss and fell to 4-2 on the season.

Devon Massengale (Elkhorn) came in to relieve Disney and pitched two innings.  Massengale allowed five hits, three runs – all earned and struck out three.  Trista Hutchings (Cambridge, Ontario, Canada) got the final out of the game for PSC.

Game Two Info

Neither team scored in the first two innings despite both having the opportunity to do so in the second.

After two outs for PSC, Maresh tripled to deep right and Alexa Johnson (Fremont) got on board with a walk.  Johnson was able to go to second on a wild pitch by the Bellevue pitcher.  However, the Bobcats could not capitalize with runners on second and third as the next batter struck out.

Bellevue scored three in the top of the third to take an initial 3-0 lead and added four in the fifth to take a commanding 7-0 advantage.  The Bruins scored one more in the eighth to make the final score 8-0.
