Massengale Earns First HAAC Softball Honor

(Peru, Neb.) – After a record-tying performance on Saturday against Haskell (Kan.), Devon Massengale (Elkhorn) became the first Bobcat softball player to earn Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) recognition.

The Peru State College (PSC) sophomore was named the HAAC Pitcher of the Week.  Evangel's outfielder, Courtney Orange, earned HAAC Player of the Week honors as released on Monday by the conference.

Massengale was one of four Bobcat pitchers to earn their first wins of the season as Peru State swept double headers from Haskell Indian Nations University and the University of St. Mary (Kan.).

A stellar performance by Massengale resulted in a 4-1 win over Haskell.  Massengale allowed just one run on five hits while matching a single-game school-record of 12 strikeouts.  Her effort puts her in the record book with former standout Melanie Tramp who set the record in 1999 against Midland Lutheran.

In addition, Massengale went four-for-five at the plate over the weekend with a run scored and two RBIs.
