Bobcat Baseball Splits with Graceland

(Peru, Neb.) – In their first Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) action, the Peru State College (PSC) Bobcat baseball team gained a split at Graceland University (GU) in Lamoni, Iowa, on Saturday.
 
With the split, the Bobcats' record is now 14-6 and 1-1 in the HAAC.  The YellowJackets are 1-1 in the conference as well and 9-10 overall.
 
Game 1 Action
 
Peru State had runners in scoring position in the first and third innings, but was held scoreless until getting two runs in the top of the seventh. Gustavo Arcia (Caracas, Venezuela) was able to get on base with a two-out single and Randy Santiesteban (Hialeah, Fla.) followed with a home run to score the only runs the 'Cats could muster in the first game.

The YellowJackets were able to get a run in the second inning, four in the third and one more in the fifth inning as they took game one with a 6-2 score.
 
The Bobcats scored their two runs on four hits and committed two errors in the game.
 
Four different 'Cats had a single hit with Santiesteban's being the run-scoring hit.
 
Will Scott (Defuniak Springs, Fla.) pitched the first five innings for the Bobcats.  Scott gave up seven hits, six runs – four earned while striking out five while falling to 2-2 on the year.  Lincoln Mansch (Missoula, Mont.) came in for relief in the sixth and was able to get three straight outs.
 
Game 2 Action
 
The Bobcat bats were able to get hot in game two of the series, as the Bobcats were able to get nine runs off nine hits taking the second game with a score of 9-1.

The Bobcats scored two in the top of the third to get the first runs of the game.  Graceland scored their lone run in the bottom of the fifth to cut it to 2-1.
 
Peru State exploded for seven runs in the top of the sixth that included home runs by Santiesteban and Jonathan Castillo (Paterson, N.J.). 
 
Santiesteban, Jeff Eubank (Fort Pierce, Fla.), and Tyler Croushorn (Omaha) each had two hits in the win.  Santiesteban led the team with two RBIs.
 
Tim Crawford (Omaha) threw five innings to start the game.  Crawford, now 4-0, only gave up five hits, with one walk and six strikeouts. Danny Borst (Moreno Valley, Calif.) threw the last two innings in relief.
 
Upcoming Games
 
The Bobcats continue conference play this week with two double headers at home. On Wednesday, Evangel University visits and on Saturday Culver-Stockton College will travel to Peru to play. The games will begin at 1 p.m. each day.
