(Peru, Neb.) – The Central Methodist University Eagles men's basketball team remained perfect in Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) men's basketball play after a 66-50 win over Peru State College on Saturday inside Puckett Field House in Fayette, Mo.
The Eagles improved to 8-4 overall and 2-0 in the HAAC while the Bobcats fell to 5-5 overall and 0-2 in the conference.
Game Action
The first half featured four ties, as neither team was able to assert itself. Peru State led 26-25 before CMU drilled a three-pointer from the top of the key making the score 28-26. With six seconds left, the Eagles hit another bucket giving them their largest first-half lead at five points, 32-27.
In the second half, CMU cranked up its offense and built a double-digit lead after a 13-4 run in the first 7:26 in the second half. At the 12:24 mark, the Eagles led 45-31.
The Bobcats did cut into the lead and trailed by seven at 48-41 with 9:14 left in the game. However, a 16-3 Central Methodist run essentially put the game out of reach.

CMU outshot PSC in every category as they finished making 26 of 65 field goals for 40%. From behind the arc, the Eagles were eight of 24 for 33.3% and hit 75% of their free throws, canning six of eight. PSC made 19 of 53 shots for 35.8%, which included going three of 16 from behind the arc for 18.8%. At the free throw line, the 'Cats made nine of 13 for 69.2%.
The Eagles grabbed three more rebounds than PSC, winning the battle 40-37. PSC committed 20 turnovers while CMU only committed 13.

Three Bobcats finished in double figures with
Nate Bohy (Mesa, Ariz.) leading the way with 13. Bohy also had five rebounds and two assists, coming off the bench.
Derrick Williams (St. Joseph, Mo.), also coming off the bench, added 12 points. Williams also had five rebounds.
In a starting role,
Richard Oppitz (Topeka, Kan.) had 11 points, six rebounds, two assists and blocked one shot.
Jacob Schaben (Defiance, Iowa) had a game-high 11 caroms to lead both teams.

The Bobcats have only two games this next week and then will be off until New Year's Eve.
On Thursday, PSC will travel to Parkville, Mo., to face the Park University Pirates at 7 p.m., in a non-conference game. Then, on Saturday, Dec. 8, the 'Cats will take on another set of 'Cats, the Wildcats of Culver-Stockton College in Canton, Mo. Game time is scheduled for approximately 4 p.m. following the women's contest.
