Bobcat VB Loses Final Non-Conference Game

(Peru, Neb.) – Coming back after losing the first two sets and winning the next two to force a final set, the Peru State College (PSC) Bobcat volleyball team could not muster enough to capture the win.  Peru State lost on the road to Bethany College 24-26, 21-25, 25-22, 25-20, 9-15.
 
With the loss, PSC is now 10-22 while Bethany improved to 6-18.
 
Game Statistics
 
Tara Gonzalez (Lincoln) and Carrie Lierz (Holton, Kan.) led the Bobcats respectively with 21 and 15 kills.  Both hit over .300 as Lierz finished hitting .375 while Gonzalez hit .318.  For Gonzalez, it was her career high in kills.  Lierz had 12 digs to give her a double-double for the night.

Lindsey Nelson (Granite Bay, Calif.) had seven kills while Becky Boshart (Wood River) and Brittany Peterson (Orem, Utah) each finished with six kills.  Alicia Petak (Omaha) added five kills.
 
Courtney Jurek (Bellevue) put up 31 assists and had her own double-double finishing with 12 digs.  Paige Riza (Ravenna, Texas) had 18 assists in the loss.
 
Defensively, Emily Maresh (Central City) had 24 digs to lead the team.  In addition, Boshart finished with eight digs while Gonzalez, Mallory Hull (Morse Bluff) and Katlyn Donovan (Greeley) each contributed five.
 
Jurek and Angie Bowers (Alda) each had two service aces.

Peterson had one solo block and four block assists to lead the team in that category.  Gonzalez and Lierz each had two block assists with Jurek and Petak each adding one block assist.

Upcoming Game
 
The final regular season game for Peru State will be against Graceland University in Lamoni, Iowa, on Tuesday night, Oct. 30.  This is also a Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) match-up and a must win for PSC in order to have a chance to make the post-season tournament.
 
Presently, PSC is tied for eighth in the HAAC with Benedictine, but Benedictine holds the edge having won the season meeting.  Graceland is presently tied for second with a 6-2 HAAC mark and is 16-9 overall.  However, the YellowJackets are on a four-game losing streak.
