(Peru, Neb.) – Hot and windy conditions on the first day of the Central Christian College Invitational did not keep the Peru State College (PSC) Bobcat golf team from posting some decent scores. In fact, they were in second at the end of the first round. However, at the end of the second day of the invite, the Bobcats found themselves finishing in third place.
Bobcat golf coach
Brett Hahn was not unhappy with the results as members of the team continued to improve. Hahn said, “Despite the adverse conditions on Monday, the girls played very well, considering the high winds. Everybody fought through the conditions. Jordan (Schaardt) and Courtney (Musgrave) shot very well the first day. Jordan battled a hip injury on Tuesday and still fought her way to a fourth place finish and medalist honors. Courtney finished in the top ten at seventh which I believe is her best finish as a Bobcat.”
As a team, the Bobcats finished with a team 767 and finished behind Seminole State Community College, which shot a 729 as a team. The College of St. Mary came back on Tuesday to better the Bobcats and finished with a 745 team score for second. Also fielding complete teams were Barton County Community College – 4th with 832 team score and Northwest Tech Community College with a 1202 team score. Kansas Wesleyan University and the host Central Christian College had individual golfers, but did not have field full teams.
Schaardt (
Humboldt) shot rounds of 83-88 for 171 and fourth place overall. Musgrave
(Omaha) finished with rounds of 88 and 91 for a 179 and seventh place. Musgrave finished the invite with the most birdies of any golfer with four. Schaardt also had one birdie.
Avyn Vaden
(Commerce City, Colo.) had her best finish as she tied for 14th came on rounds of 99 and 107 for a 206 total. Ellen Larsen
(Lincoln) was the fourth golfer figuring in to the Bobcats' team total. Larsen finished in a tie for 18th with a 212 total on rounds of 113 and 99.
Hahn concluded, “On Monday, Jacey (Stoner)
(Alda) struggled with heat exhaustion and eventually had to withdraw from the round. However, she came back to shoot one of her better 36 holes on Tuesday as she finished with a 106. Also, Avyn's two-day total appears to be her best ever as a Bobcat golfer and she finished in a tie for 14th, which also appears to be her best finish.”
The Bobcats will finish the fall portion of their golf season next Sunday and Monday as they will be competing in the Nebraska Wesleyan Tournament in Lincoln, Neb. On Sunday, they will be playing at the Highlands Golf Course. Monday will find the golfers finishing the tournament on the Pioneers Golf Course.
