(Peru, Neb.) – After a tough first day on a new golf course, the Peru State College (PSC) Bobcat golf team all improved on the second day to finish fourth at the University of Nebraska at Kearney Women's Golf Invitational. The two-day meet was conducted at the Awarii Dunes Golf Course in nearby Axtell and featured seven full teams and numerous individuals.
Every team improved from day one, but PSC improved its team score by 36 strokes and went from a tie for fifth to sole possession of fourth place. The three teams finishing ahead of the Bobcats were all NCAA Division II. Fort Hays State University won the title with a two-day total of 649 (331-318). Finishing second was Regis University with 665 (342-323) and were followed by the hosts, UNK whom finished with a 669 (362-337) total. The Bobcats had a two-day score of 776 (406-370) and had the best overall second day improvement. Finishing behind the 'Cats were another DII school, Chadron State with a 779 (406-373), Hastings College with a 786 (400-386), and Dodge City Community College with a 789 (419-370).
Senior Jordan Schaardt (Humboldt) had the Bobcats both days as she shot an 86 and 87 for 173 total which was good enough for a tie for 11th. Sophomore Ellen Larsen (Lincoln) finished second with a 190 total having shot a 99-91, which was good enough for a 21st finish.

Another sophomore, Courtney Musgrave (Omaha) was the Bobcats third best finisher having shot a two-day score of 193. Musgrave finished tied for 22nd. Junior Jacey Stoner (Alda) finished 38th with a 224 (116-108) and senior Avyn Vaden (Commerce City, Colo.) was 39th with a 249 (145-104).

Junior Katie Potter (Omaha) also golfed as an individual and finished 30th overall with a two-day total of 204 (108-96).
New Bobcat head golf coach Brett Hahn was very pleased with his team's performance. Hahn said, “The course conditions were not very favorable, but the girls made it through which is a good sign for the rest of the season. On the second day, every golfer improved on their day one scores with several shooting their career best nine holes.” Hahn finished with, “I was pleased with the fourth place finish, especially competing against some good DII teams. I told the girls and Athletic Department Office Assistant Angela Allgood that I felt like a proud papa after the second day of the meet.”
The Bobcats will be travelling to McPherson, Kan., to participate in the Central Christian Invitational on Sept. 12 and 13.
