(Peru, Neb.) – Derrick Williams
(St. Joseph, Mo.), a junior guard on the Peru State College (PSC) Bobcat men's basketball team, was chosen as the Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) men's basketball player of the week.
Williams had two 30-point games propelling him to the weekly award for last week, which saw the Bobcats, pick up their first win of the season. For the week, Williams averaged 23.7 points and 5.7 rebounds while shooting 27 of 55 for 49.1% from the field. In addition, Williams drained 14 of 16 free throws for an 87.5% average.
In the 'Cats loss to Kansas Wesleyan on Tuesday, Williams scored 32 points on 12 of 24 shooting from the field and hitting seven of nine free throws. Williams also added eight rebounds and four steals.
Against Grace University, Williams led PSC to their first win with 33 points, six rebounds, three assists, and one steal. Williams was 13 of 24 from the floor and nailed all five free throw attempts.
Presently, Williams is leading the HAAC in scoring with 23.38 points per game over the first eight games of the year. His 50.7% field goal shooting is currently fourth and is also fourth in steals per game averaging 2.25 nabs.
