(Peru, Neb.) – For the first time this fall, the Peru State College (PSC) Bobcat volleyball team has won three games in a row. On Saturday, Oct. 8, the Bobcats travelled to Fayette, Mo., and defeated their second straight Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) team, Central Methodist University (CMU). PSC won 25-21, 17-25, 25-18, 25-15.
The 'Cats are now are 6-13 overall and 2-3 in the HAAC while CMU is 1-5 in the HAAC and 5-14 for the year. With the win, PSC is now seventh in the HAAC standings and still has four conference games remaining.
Jessie Clark (Omaha) and
Carly Morehead (Fairbury) led Peru State with 15 and 11 kills respectively. Clark added eight digs, one solo block and one block assist. Morehead contributed seven digs, two solo blocks, and six block assists.
Maddy Lister (North Platte) had seven kills and three block assists while
Tara Carstens (Lincoln) had five kills, two digs, and one block assist.
Courtney Jurek (Bellevue) and
Amanda Gilreath (Omaha) again shared the setting duties. Jurek had 21 assists and five digs while Gilreath added 13 assists and nine digs.
Kelsey Monahan (Atkinson) and
Emily Maresh (Central City) each had 15 digs to defensively lead the Bobcats. In addition, Monahan had all four of the PSC's service aces for the game.
On Tuesday, Oct. 11, the Bobcats are scheduled to play former Midlands Collegiate Athletic Conference foe, Bellevue University, at the Johnson-Brock High School gymnasium in Johnson. The match, scheduled to start at 7 p.m., is being played in Johnson to honor former Johnson-Brock teammates, PSC's Rachel Rippe and Bellevue's Jordan Broady, along with HTRS graduate, Bruin Kali Schnacker.
Next Saturday, Oct. 15, the Bobcats will host HAAC opponent, Evangel University, in the Al Wheeler Activity Center. Bobcat fans should note the game time has been changed to noon, which will be prior to PSC's football game that begins at 1 p.m.
