Bobcat VB Drops HAAC Game to Evangel

(Peru, Neb.) – On Dig Pink Day for Peru State College (PSC) volleyball, which saw the Bobcats sporting pink jerseys in support of breast cancer awareness, the result of the game was not close to bright.

The Evangel University Crusaders were seeing red following a three-set loss to Bellevue University and swept PSC on Saturday. The Crusaders won 25-23, 25-20, 25-17 in a Heart of America Athletic Conference (HAAC) game. With the win, Evangel improved to 5-2 in the HAAC, good for third place, and 25-5 overall. The 'Cats fall to 6-15 overall and 2-4 in the HAAC. This puts PSC in sixth place in the conference with three games remaining.

Prior to the game, Bobcat seniors Maddy Lister (North Platte) and Kelsey Monahan (Atkinson) read a poem regarding breast cancer. The PSC Administration supported the team by allowing a free-will donation to be given in lieu of the general admission. Over $200 will donated to the Side-Out Foundation, which awards grants to medical research organizations and entities in support of the breast cancer cause. In addition, pink ribbons were handed out for those not wearing pink at the game.

The game itself saw the Bobcats having one of the season's lowest hitting percentage as the Crusaders forced many hitting errors and kept rallies going. For the game, PSC hit only 0.076 and had 19 attack errors. The 'Cats did get their hands on many of the Crusader attacks as they had two solo blocks and 11 block assists against an Evangel attack which featured the NAIA's top hitter in terms of percentage.
