(Peru, Neb.)—Peru State athletic director Wayne Albury recently announced the selection of Maddy Duncan (Hamburg, Iowa) and Jibril Harris (Chicago) as the Bobcat Athletes of the Month for January.
Duncan, in the month of the January, averaged 15.4 points per game as she was in double figures in seven out of eight games for the women’s basketball team. Duncan scored 22 twice in the month with the last time coming when the Bobcats defeated Park 74-69 in overtime.
Duncan has helped lead the team out of an eight-game losing streak to win the last two games in a row and springboard the Bobcats with momentum into the final month of February.
Here is what Duncan had to say about the honor.
“It means a lot to be selected as athlete of the month,” said Duncan. “I wouldn’t be where I am today without my teammates! Every day we push each other in practice to our best ability I am grateful to have been selected!”
Harris on the men’s side has been a game wrecker for the Bobcats in January as he averaged 19 points per game and eight rebounds a game.
Harris has helped the Bobcats win four of the last six games in the late stages of January into the earlier part of February.
Here is what Harris had to say about the honor.
“I am really thankful for the athlete of the month award,” said Harris. “Staying true to myself and the process.”
Both teams will be busy this week as they hit the road for a couple of conference games against Clarke and Grand View.
