Bobcat volleyball head coach Laurie Felderman recently announced the hiring of Madison Peters as Peru State’s first full-time assistant coach. In addition to helping Felderman with the entire program, Peters will be responsible for the Bobcat junior varsity program which will begin in the fall of 2020.
Felderman noted, “We are extremely excited to add Madison Peters to the Bobcat volleyball family. She impressed the search committee with her coaching and recruiting experiences through the interview process, and has added value with her knowledge of strength and conditioning.”
Continuing, Felderman stated, “We are thankful Coach Peters has hit the ground running to help us prepare for the addition of our junior varsity program in fall 2020.”
The Avondale, Ariz., native prepped at Westview High School in Avondale and was a first team all-region selection in 2013. She served as her team’s captain in 2013-14.
Following high school, Peters was a member of the first Benedictine University at Mesa (Ariz.) team in the fall of 2014. Her team finished as runner-ups in the Cal Pac Conference in 2016. During the 2016 season, Peters was in the top ten in the conference aces per set and total service aces with 32. During the 2017-18 season, she was a captain for both the indoor and beach volleyball teams. A highlight of Peters’ beach volleyball was being part of a pair that beat one of the Huskers pairs in 2018.
Peters’ coaching experience is extensive as she started coaching club volleyball in 2015 as the head coach for the Ignite Volleyball Club in Scottsdale, Ariz. She had additional club experience with the East Valley Juniors as their head coach. Also, Peters served as an assistant coach for North Phoenix Prep High School.
In May of 2018, Peters graduated with a bachelor’s degree in business administration for Benedictine University at Mesa.
Most recently, Peters served as a graduate assistant and recruiting coordinator at McDaniel College in Westminster, Maryland. McDaniel, a NCAA DIII program, produced a 23-9 record in 2018 and had numerous all-conference and all-region selections. The Green Terror finished the 2019 season with a 16-13 mark. Peters handled numerous administrative duties and worked with the other coaches to evaluate and recruit prospective athletes.
While at McDaniel, Peters gained valuable coaching experience as she worked two summers with the NIKE Volleyball Camp as a head coach and resident coordinator. Also, she was a site director for the CHRVA where they hosted numerous tournaments. In addition, she served one year as an 18’s assistant coach for a team in Columbia, Md., which was a national qualifier.
Peters is completing her master of science in kinesiology from McDaniel. She anticipates graduating in May 2020.
About her hiring at Peru State, Peters commented, ““I am so thankful that Coach Felderman gave me the opportunity to join the coaching staff. I am very excited to work with the student athletes, coaches, and the community of Peru. Go Bobcats!”
