Better known as "JB", Justin Barnes (Tallahassee, Fla.) has worked as a graduate assistant for the Peru State football program this past academic year.
Barnes earned his bachelor's in computer and management information systems from Peru State in December of 2018, He is currently pursuing his master's degree in organizational management. His coaching tenure at Peru came after his playing days as a Bobcat.
As a Bobcat, he finished his career with 192 total tackles, 14 tackles for loss and three interceptions. He began coaching in the fall of 2018 as a student volunteer which led to former head coach Steve Schneider offering him a graduate assistant coaching position.
The Bobcat football program is under new leadership with first-year head coach Casey Creehan. He had this to say about Barnes, "We are fortunate to retain Justin as part of our 2020 football staff. Justin will coach our LB position. In my short time with Justin, I have been extremely impressed by his passion for the game! I look forward to working with him."
In the summer of 2018 Barnes was instrumental in the initial start of the Peru State football summer weightlifting program, helping train athletes and coordinate the program. He has also helped sign a number of recruits thus far in his coaching career.
Barnes stated, "My time in Peru as a student-athlete was nothing short of thrilling. The opportunity to enhance the lives of student-athletes through education and sports is one that I could not pass up. I thank Coach Schneider and Coach Creehan for the opportunity to work with these young men."
