Peru State College Athletics

(Peru, Neb.)- The Peru State College football team suffered a 47-6 setback to Benedictine College at home on Saturday night. The Bobcats drop to 0-2 overall and 0-1 in conference play while Benedictine rises to 1-1 overall.
 
Benedictine took the opening drive and marched down to score off an 18-yard pass and after a good point after, a fumble on the Peru State return set the Ravens up on the Bobcat 32-yard line but facing a 4^th and two, Louis Jordan (St. Louis, Mo. / Lutheran North HS) and Robert Bennett (Richmond, Texas. / Randle) ganged up to stuff the handoff for a two-yard loss. Peru State would use a 36-yard strike to the one-yard line and after two attempts, John Holcombe II (Houston, Texas. / Kansas State / Summer Creek HS) would punch the Bobcats only score in to bring the game within one. A blocked point after would be returned in favor of Benedictine to make the score 9-6.
 
Benedictine would score through the air, ground and kicking game as they would score two more touchdowns and a field goal to close the first half 26-6.
 
Peru State would see three drives in the second half go into Raven territory, but the Benedictine defense held strong as they would find the endzone three more times to close the game 47-6.
 
Offensively Chandler Cotton (Omaha, Neb. / Papillion LaVista Sourh HS) led the team in rushing with 12 carries for 52 yards while Holcomb II scored Peru State's first touchdown of the 2026 season, CJ Dixon (Loganville, Ga. / Independence CC / Grayson HS) paced the passing game by going 10-24 with 118 yards.
 
Defensively Ja-Quez Oliver (Ocala, Fla. / Langston Hughes HS) led the defense in tackles with nine total and eight solo stops while Gavin Dunkel (Scottsbluff, Neb. / Morrill HS) notched seven total tackles and a pass breakup.
 
Peru State goes on the road for the first time this season as the Bobcats are set to face Missouri Baptist on Saturday, kickoff is set for 1 P.M.
