(Parkville, Mo.)- The Peru State men's basketball team made history on Saturday afternoon, earning the program's highest-ranked win ever with a stunning 84-68 victory over No. 3 Georgetown College.
Behind a dominant first half and a balanced offensive attack, the Bobcats (3-1) controlled the game from start to finish, shocking one of the NAIA's premier programs. Peru State shot an impressive 57.9% from the field and 53.3% from three-point range while holding Georgetown to just 40.3% shooting overall.
Junior forward Ashton Lovette led the charge with a monster double-double, scoring 27 points and grabbing 15 rebounds. Lovette caught fire early, pouring in 22 of his points before halftime as the Bobcats built a 48-31 lead at the break.
Victor Lado added 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting, while Denim Johnson was a steady playmaker with 14 points, six rebounds, and five assists. Caleb Iheukwu chipped in 12 points, and Quentin Wright provided a spark with 10 points and five assists.
Peru State out-rebounded Georgetown 45-28 and outscored the Tigers 46-40 in the paint. The Bobcats also displayed unselfish offense, tallying 21 assists on 33 made baskets.
