Volleyball Takes Home Opener Win

(Peru, Neb.)- The Peru State Women's Volleyball Team defeated the Southwestern Jinx in their home opener on Friday night. The Bobcats had a .310 hitting percentage against the Jinx in their 3-1 win.
 
The Bobcats started out strong taking a quick 10-4 lead against the Southwestern with the help of multiple kills by Hana Deticek and Eden Moore. Strong serves by Emily Sherman and kills by Erison Vonderschmidt, Kennedy Miller and Kalyssa Fox allowed the Bobcats to take a 16-5 lead. Sami Chesley came out with strong serves to continue the lead. A big block by Kennedy Miller and Erison Vonderschmidt and three kills by Erison Vonderschmidt gave the Bobcats a 23-7 lead. A final kill by Kennedy Miller completed set 1 25-8.
 
In the second set, Eden Moore started the set with a kill followed with a kill by Sami Chesley. The Jinx took the lead, but the Bobcats continued to fight back. Multiple kills from Hana Deticek, Eden Moore and Kalyssa Fox helped tie the score at 17-17. The teams continued to go back and forth with Erison Vonderschmidt having four kills in the rally. The Jinx found a way and pulled out the win 25-23.
 
Erison Vonderschmidt had a big kill to start off set three. Strong serves from Kennedy Miller and multiple Bobcat kills had the team off to a commanding 10-2 start of the set. The Bobcats fought to extend their lead with multiple service aces and kills, they found themselves a seven-point lead. Hana Deticek finished out the third set for the Bobcats with a kill and two aces to win the set 25-15.
 
In the fourth set, the Jinx tried to keep the score close. Kills by Kennedy Miller and three in a row by Erison Vonderschmidt allowed the Bobcats to begin to pull away with a lead. Kills by Eden Moore and a service ace by Erison Vonderschmidt continued the lead for the Bobcats. Eden Moore had strong serves with two aces and Hana Deticek with two kills helped the Bobcats lead extend to 23-14. Final kills from Eden Moore and Erison Vonderschmidt finished out the set 25-16.
 
Erison Vonderschmidt led the Bobcats with 17 kills and a .278 attack percentage. She also tallied 19 digs and 2 blocks against Southwestern. Hana Deticek tallied 13 kills and a .429 attack percentage, adding 12 digs and three aces against the Jinx. Eden Moore had 10 kills and seven digs with two blocks in the match.
 
Sami Chesley had 36 assists in the match and also having 10 digs against the Jinx. Olivia Dickson had 8 assists and two digs during the game. Ryan White added 12 digs against Southwestern.
