(Peru, Neb.)- The Peru State Bobcats defeated the Baker Wildcats, 78-63, on the road in Baldwin City, Kansas, Wednesday night. The Bobcats are now 10-13 in the Heart of America Conference and 13-14 overall.
In the first quarter of the matchup, the Bobcats went back and forth with the Wildcats. A made three by
Kylie Diaz gave the Bobcats the lead, 28-25, going into the second quarter. They didn't let up as they continued to defend their lead throughout the quarter. The Bobcats were able to seal a 11-point lead going into halftime with the help of
Samantha Stewarts 17 points and
Natasha Deal and Oliva Williams five rebounds.
The Bobcats came out hot in the second half with
Samantha Stewart having four of the first six points for the Bobcats. The Bobcats continued to hold off the Wildcats as they took their lead to 21 points. A three pointer and free throw by
Hailey Ingram finished out the second half for the Bobcats. The Bobcats took the win over the Wildcats 78-63.
Samantha Stewart led the Bobcats with 27 points, seven rebounds and seven steals.
Hailey Ingram had 21 points for the team with five assists and three rebounds.
Maddy Duncan had 11 points for the Bobcats with three rebounds and two steals with
Natasha Deal having 10 points with eight rebounds and two steals.
Next: The Bobcats will return home on Saturday, February 24th to take on Clarke University and celebrate the basketball seniors. Tipoff is set for 12:00 PM.
