Baseball Splits games with Hastings

(Kansas City, MO)- The Peru State Baseball Team split with the Hastings Mustangs Friday, February 9th in Kansas City. The Bobcats are now 1-4 overall.
 
The Bobcats took a tough loss in the first game of the day 4-6. The team bounced back to take the win 4-2 in the second game.
 
Game 1- Peru State 4 - Hastings 6
 
The Bobcats struggled in the first few innings as the Mustangs scored five runs.
 
Antonio Benitez with a double to left field in the fifth inning sent Ivan Medina to score the first run for the Bobcats. A single by Garrett Pavletich sent booth Ivan Medina and Gustavo Rivera to score in the 6th. Gustavo Rivera had a single to right field that would send Antonio Benitez to score the final run for the Bobcats.
 
Kevin Diaz pitched three complete innings and allowed five runs on five hits but had three strikeouts. Diego Oquendo also pitched three complete innings and had six strikeouts, only allowing three hits.
 
Game 2- Peru State 4 – Hastings 2
 
The Bobcats bounced back nicely in game two behind pitcher, Casey Ogden. Ogden pitched six complete innings, only gave up five hits and struck out nine batters.
 
A fly out to right field scored the first run for the Bobcats as Antonio Benitez made it home. In the fifth, an error by the Mustangs helped Angel Andrades to score for the Bobcats. A single by Dylan Pavletich helped Benitez and Xavier Solla to score the final runs for the Bobcats.
 
Next: The Bobcats will travel to Goodwell, Oklahoma to take on Oklahoma Panhandle State University on Friday, February 16th and Saturday, February 17th.
