Grand View Blasts William Penn, Heads to Peru State

Grand View, ranked #2 in the nation in the NAIA, cruised to a 42-6 win over William Penn to move its record to 8-0 and 4-0 in the Heart North heading into Saturday's 1 p.m. matchup in the Oak Bowl.

The Vikings were nearly flawless, with no turnovers and no penalties committed. Grand View quarterback Jackson Waring completed 13 of 15 passes with two touchdowns along with a rushing score. Their 42 points was actually under their season average of 47.8 per game.

Defensively, Grand View gave up a pair of fourth quarter WPU field goals. Their six points surrendered was just under their season average of 7.5 points allowed per game.

Scoring by Quarters:

William Penn 0- 0- 0- 6 = 6

Grand View 7-21- 7- 7 = 42

Dalten Van Pelt led Grand View with 115 yards on 22 carries and two scores as GV rolled up 285 rushing yards on the day. Defensively they limited William Penn to 205 total yards. GV logged 33 first downs to 11 for the Statesmen.

Grand View, from Des Moines, Iowa, leads the all-time series eight wins to one including eight consecutive victories. PSC took inaugural meeting 18-17 in 2008.

Bobcats Thunder Past Culver-Stockton 52-21

A rainy day in the Oak Bowl didn't slow the Bobcats as they blasted Culver-Stockton 52-21 on Saturday. The win moved Peru State to 6-2 and guaranteed the team a winning record. The Bobcats are 4-1 in Heart North standings, trailing only Graceland and Saturday's foe Grand View.

Peru State registered 50+ points for the second week in a row. It was the first time since 2013 the Bobcats posted 50 or more points twice in a season.

Scoring by quarters:

Culver-Stockton 7- 0- 7- 7 = 21

Peru State 14–10– 7– 21 = 52

The scoring explosion is all the more impressive given Peru State's top running back, Stacian Livingston, and wide receiver, Jordan Kempf, didn't suit up Saturday. Grant Gutschow, the converted quarterback, continued to produce with 120 yards and two touchdowns on 22 carries as the offensive line had another great day.

Freshman back Jermaine House continued to maximize his opportunities, adding 96 yards and a score on 10 carries. Sophomore quarterback M.J. Nelson and sophomore tailback Chandler Cotton also tallied rushing touchdowns in front of the Hall of Fame audience.

Sophomore wide receiver Daylan Jones led the receiving corps with 66 yards and a score on three catches, and added another 119 yards on four kickoff returns. Lander Imbimbo caught the other scoring pass from fellow senior quarterback Colin Shields, who completed 10 of 17 passes for 133 yards.

Defensively, sophomore Ashley Thompson snagged his fifth interception on the year, tied for tops in the Heart North as the Bobcats are sixth in the nation picking off opponents' passes. Sophomore Duke McClinton registered seven tackles, while juniors Jakari Starling and Ahdarrious Gee and freshman Ja-Quez Oliver all had four stops. Senior Caleb Jackson had two passes broken up.
