(Peru, Neb.)- The Peru State Men's Basketball Team beat the Doane Tigers on Saturday night, 72-62. The Bobcats are 4-0 overall going into conference play.
The Bobcats came out strong, quickly jumping to an 8-0 lead, with
Lamar Lovelace and
Carlos Hines leading the charge. Lovelace was a major factor in the early run, scoring 10 points and grabbing two rebounds in the first half, while Hines added 9 points and 5 rebounds. As a team, Peru State was efficient on offense and solid on defense, limiting Doane's scoring opportunities and taking a 37-28 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Tigers attempted to make a run, but the Bobcats responded each time.
Carlos Hines continued his strong performance, adding 14 points and 4 rebounds after halftime. Lovelace also played a key role, contributing 9 points and 2 steals, helping to stymie Doane's attempts to close the gap. Despite Doane's best efforts, Peru State's discipline on both ends of the floor kept them in control, and they were able to close out the game with a 72-62 win.
Hines finished as the game's leading scorer with 23 points and 9 rebounds, while Lovelace added 19 points, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals.
Devin Tomlinson added 11 points, seven rebounds and one steals for the Bobcats.
