Volleyball Wins Thrilling 5-Set Match on Senior Day

(Peru, Neb.)- The Peru State Volleyball team won their senior day match in dramatic fashion against Baker University in their second reverse sweep of the weekend. The Bobcats are now 5-6 in the Heart of America Conference and 10-14 overall.  

The Bobcats celebrated their six seniors, Kylee Fischer, #4 Raevyn Russel, #5 Kennedy Miller, #15 Allie Schnider, #26 Kalyssa Fox and #30 Elli Williams prior to the game! 

The Bobcats started slow in the first set as the Wildcats took a six point lead. Erison Vonderschmidt had four kills and four digs as the Bobcats tried to close the gap, but the Wildcats stole the set 25-17. The Bobcats continued to struggle to find their momentum in the second set as they found themselves in a deficit. They didn't give up though closing the gap at 15-15. Neither team took more than a one point lead as the teams battled to finish the set. Through the efforts of Eden Moore and Erison Vonderschmidt having three kills, the Wildcats won the second set 26-24.  

The Bobcats found their momentum in the third set as they took a small lead. The Bobcats battled through the set not letting Baker run away with a lead. Erison Vonderschmidt had seven kills with Kennedy Miller having three as the Bobcats pushed to win the set. Baker had three match point opportunities that the Bobcats stopped before strong serves from Kennedy Miller, two kills from Vonderschmidt and one from Eden Moore win the set for the Bobcats 28-26.  

The Bobcats took a fast lead in the fourth set. Raevyn Russel had five kills with Erison Vonderschmidt having four as the Bobcats rolled through the fourth set, taking the set 25-22. In the final set, the Wildcats took the a late three point lead in the set to 15. The Bobcats didn't give up though closing the gap at 11-11. Vonderschmidt had five kills with Russel adding three as the Bobcats were tied with Baker at 15-15. A kill by Raevyn Russel followed by a block by seniors Kennedy Miller and Raevyn Russel win the senior day game and reverse sweep, 17-15.  

Erison Vondershmidt led the Bobcats with 23 kills, 24 digs and three assisted blocks. Raevyn Russel had 13 kills and 21 digs against the Wildcats. Kennedy Miller had six kills and 11 total blocks during the match. Eden Moore had seven kills with Kalyssa Fox having five kills and four assisted blocks against the Wildcats. 

Sami Chesley had 26 digs and 17 digs with Allie Schneider having 20 assists, 11 digs and two aces in the match. Shealie Wiebers had 17 digs for the Bobcats with Emily Sherman adding 12 digs.  

Next: The Bobcats will be on the road on Tuesday, October 15th to take on William Penn at 6:00pm.
