(Peru, Neb.)- The Peru State Men's Basketball team beat the William Penn Statesman 83-77, Saturday night in Oskaloosa, IA. The Bobcats are now 4-7 in the Heart of America Conference and 8-7 overall.
In the first half, Carlos Hines came out with a made layup with a free throw from a Statesman foul for the first points for the Bobcats. With multiple shots from Sayvon Taylor and Carlos Hines, the Bobcats can take an early 11-point lead. Carlos Hines had 17 points with three steals with Sayvon Traylor having 12 points in the first half. The Statesman were still able to creep their way back into the game, making the score a one-point game. The Bobcats led going into half 40-39.
The Bobcats started off the second half with a make by Sayvon Traylor behind the arch. David Wingett Jr. had 16 points in the second and two blocks to help the Bobcats extend their lead. With the help of a big defensive game, the Statesman were not able to close the gap. Carlos Hines had the final layup and free throws to seal the deal for the Bobcats as they took their first win against William Penn since 2019, 83-77.
Carlos Hines led the team in scoring with 26 points, also adding four rebounds and three steals. Sayvon Traylor had 21 points with four rebounds and David Wingett Jr. Added 18 points, nine rebounds and three blocks for the Bobcats. AJ Richard had eight points and six rebounds along with Christian Tidiane having 10 rebounds and five points.
