Peru State Baseball Sweeps Graceland in Final Homestand

(Peru, Neb.)—The Peru State baseball team on Friday, April 28, and Saturday, April 29, swept Graceland in its final series of the year. The Bobcats beat the Yellowjackets 11-1, 9-1, 13-10 and 5-4.
 
Below is a breakdown of how the series went…
 
Game 1 W 11-1 vs. Graceland
 
Both teams went three up three down in the top of the first inning. Graceland got the scoring started in the top of the second as they loaded the bases with three singles. The Yellowjackets scored on a wild pitch to make the score 1-0. Graceland scored one run on three hits and left two on base.
 
Josue Vazquez (Salinas, P.R.) and Yodelvy Garcia (Santiago, D.R.) hit back-to-back singles to lead off the bottom half of the second. Angel Andrades (Humacao, P.R.) drew a walk to load the bases for the Bobcats.
 
Efrain Torres (Aibonito, P.R.) hit an RBI single and then two more runners came into score via an error by the left fielder as Peru State took a 3-1 lead. Torres advanced to third from the error. Josue Cisnero (Santo Domingo, D.R.) hit a sac fly out to left as the Bobcats scored their fourth run of the game.
 
Later in the inning Will Reynolds (Bakersfield, Calif.) hit an RBI single to make the score 5-1 Peru State. The Bobcats scored five runs on five hits three errors and left two on base in the second.
 
The scoring cooled off for both teams in the third inning as neither team brought a runner across the plate. Graceland went three up three down in the top of the fourth inning. Jacob Aberg (Lincoln) reached on an error out in center and made it to third. Reynolds then hit a sac fly into left as the Bobcats extended their lead by five, leading 6-1.
 
Offense was hard to come by for the Yellowjackets in game one as they did not any runners across the plate in the fifth. Peru State's bats got hot in the fifth. Vazquez and Garcia hit back-to-back singles. Andrades then hit an RBI single as the score was now 7-1. Torres then hit an RBI single to make the score 8-1.
 
Ivan Medina (Maracaibo, Venezuela) hit a single to load the bases for the Bobcats in the home half of the fifth. Then Aberg hit an RBI single and an error in left had three runs score for the Bobcats. Peru State scored five runs on seven hits an error and left two on in the fifth.
 
Graceland had runners on via a single and a walk in the top of the sixth but a groundout ended the top of the sixth. Peru State went three up three down in the home half of the sixth.
 
Graceland had runners on the corners after two singles in the seventh but a double play ended the game.
 
Kevin Diaz (Dominican Republic) took the win pitching a complete game only giving up one earned run on six hits while striking out seven batters.
 
Game 2 W 9-1 vs. Graceland
 
Graceland had its leadoff batter get on base with a singled bunt to third. Later in the inning an RBI single scored the first run of the game for the Yellowjackets. Graceland scored one run on two hits and left one on base.
 
Aberg hit a leadoff single and then stole second to get into scoring position. Later in the inning a two-out RBI single from Vazquez tied the game at one apiece. Garcia then hit a two-run home run to make the score 3-1 Peru State. The Bobcats scored three runs on three hits in the first.
 
The offenses cooled for both teams in the second inning. Peru State blew the game open in the bottom of the third. Reynolds hit a single and then advanced to second on an error by the left fielder. Reynolds then stole third to get 90-feet away from the plate. Bradford hit an RBI triple to make the score 4-1.
 
Later in the inning an RBI single from Garcia made the score 5-1. Torres hit a sac foul out to first base as the Bobcats now led 6-1. Medina hit an RBI double to left to make the score 7-1. Cisnero scored on a wild pitch to make the score 8-1. Medina would score on a wild pitch to make the score 9-1. Peru State scored six runs on five hits an error and left two on in the third.
 
Not much happened in the fourth inning for either team. The Yellowjackets had their leadoff hitter with a single in the top of the fifth. Graceland had runners on first and second after a walk but a fielder's choice ended the half inning. Peru State went three up three down in the home half of the fifth.
 
Graceland threatened with runners in scoring position after a hit by pitch and a double to left center. A walk loaded the bases for the Yellowjackets. A double play ended the Graceland threat. Bradford drew a one-out walk but a double play ended the sixth inning.
 
A single and a walk in the top half of the seventh had runners on first and second but then a double play left Graceland to its final out. A groundout to the pitcher ended the game.
 
Micah McLeod (Franklin County, Fla.) took the win pitching a complete game striking out two batters giving up one earned run on six hits.
 
Cisnero and Garcia each had two hits. Garcia led the team with three RBIs.
 
Game 3 W 13-10 vs. Graceland
 
Graceland went three up three down in the top of the first. Reynolds walked and stole second to get into scoring position then Bradford drew a walk. Bradford and Reynolds were in scoring position then Vazquez walked to load the bases.
 
Garcia drew a walk scoring the first run of the game. Bradford then came into score on a wild pitch. Peru State scored two runs and left two on in the first.
 
The Yellowjackets hit a leadoff single in the top of the second the runner advanced into scoring position on a passed ball. An RBI double to left center scored the first run of the game for Graceland. Later in the inning a productive groundout tied the game at two apiece. Graceland scored two runs on two hits and left one on.
 
Randy Jimenez (Santiago De Los Caballeros) drew a one-out walk in the bottom of the second. Jimenez advanced to second and third but was caught stealing trying to go home. Medina and Aberg both drew walks. Reynolds hit an RBI single as Peru State took a 3-2 lead. Peru State hit one run on one hit an error and left the bases loaded.
 
Graceland hit a two-run home run to retake the lead 4-3 in the top of the third. Peru State did not have much going offensively in the third. Graceland went three up three down in the top of the fourth.
 
Peru State in the fourth inning had Jimenez reached on an error then Medina hit a sac bunt and reached on an error Jimenez came around to score and tied the game at four. Reynolds then hit an RBI single to make the score 5-4 Bobcats. Bradford hit a two RBI single to make the score 7-4 Peru State. Later in the inning Andrades hit a grand slam to make the score 11-4 Bobcats.
 
Aberg hit an RBI double to center to make the score 13-4 Bobcats. Peru State scored 10 runs on six hits three errors and left one on. Graceland in the top of the fifth scored on an RBI double to left center and an RBI single to left center to make the score 13-6. The Yellowjackets scored two runs on two hits and left one on.
 
Vazquez drew a leadoff walk but three straight flyouts to right ended the home half of the fifth. Nothing happened offensively for either team in the sixth inning. Graceland hit an RBI double to left to make the score 13-7. Later in the inning a three-run home run made the score 13-10, two groundouts ended the game.
 
Diego Oquendo (Merida, Venezuela) took the win pitching 6.1 innings striking out three batters giving up 10 earned runs on nine hits. Garrett Pavletich (Bakersfield, Calif.) pitched 0.2 innings in relief.
 
Aberg and Reynolds had two hits each. Andrades had four RBIs.
 
 
 
Game 4 W 5-4 vs. Graceland
 
Graceland in the top of the first hit a leadoff single. Later in the inning the bases were loaded after a hit by pitch and a walk. Another walk drove in the first run of the game for the Yellowjackets. Graceland scored one run on one hit and left three on base. Not much happened for Peru State in the home half of the first.
 
Graceland scored its second run of the game on a two-out RBI double to left field to make the score 2-0 Yellowjackets. McLeod hit a leadoff single in the bottom of the second. Diego Rivera (Carolina, P.R.) then hit a single and Jeremy Santiago (Ponce, P.R.) moved into second who pinch ran for McLeod. Santiago was later thrown out at home. Cisnero singled to load the bases for the Bobcats but a 5-4-3 double play ended the inning.
 
The Yellowjackets did not get anyone across the plate in the third. Reynolds singled to center in the bottom of the third and then advanced to third on an error in the outfield. Bradford hit an RBI single to make the score 2-1. Vazquez hit an RBI double to right to tie the game at two. McLeod reached on an error as the Bobcats took a 3-2 lead.
 
Later in the third Pavletich hit an RBI single as the Bobcats doubled up the Yellowjackets leading 4-2. Graceland drew two walks in the fourth but a pop-up to first ended the half inning. Medina was hit by a pitch and Reynolds walked in the fourth but a flyout and a strikeout ended the inning.
 
Graceland went down in order in the fifth. Peru State could not get any offense going in the bottom of the fifth. In the top of the sixth the Yellowjackets got within one on an RBI single to left center trailing 4-3. Graceland scored one run on one hit an error and left one on.
 
Peru State went down in order in the home half of the sixth. Graceland tied the game at four with an RBI single to center in the seventh. In the bottom of the seventh Reynolds hit a leadoff double into left. Bradford grounded out to second but moved the runner over to third.
 
Graceland then intentionally walked Vazquez and McLeod to load the bases to get the force out anywhere and put a double play ball in play. Santiago pinch hit for Rivera and hit a walk-off RBI single to score the winning run as Peru State won 5-4.
 
Luis Pacheco (Miami, Fla.) pitched five innings striking out four batters giving up two earned runs on four hits. Sergio Benitez-Clemente (Carolina, P.R.) pitched one inning giving up one earned run on one hit. Vazquez took the win pitching one inning striking out two batters giving up one run on one hit.
 
Bradford and Reynolds led the way with two hits each. Bradford, Pavletich, Santiago and Vazquez each had an RBI.
 
Peru State finished the season 16-23 overall and 13-17 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play. The Bobcats did not qualify for the Heart Conference Tournament.
