(Peru, Neb.)—The Peru State softball team on Saturday, April 1, fell in both games to Graceland in Lamoni, Iowa. The Bobcats lost the first game 8-0 in five innings and lost the second game 5-1.
Below is a breakdown of how the games went…
Game 1 @ Graceland L 8-0 (F/5)
In the first inning Peru State went three up three down and Graceland had threatened but no damage had been done. In the second inning
Andrea Page (Palisade) drew a leadoff walk then
Jami Mans (Fairbury) singled to left. The Bobcats threatened with runners in scoring position but the half inning ended with no runs on one hit and left two on base.
The Yellowjackets scored their first run of the game on a home run. Later in the inning another blast this time a two-run home run scored Graceland's second and third runs of the game. The Yellowjackets scored three runs on two hits an error and did not leave anyone on base in the second.
Outside of an
Ellie Ohlde (Fairbury) single in the third offense was hard to come by in Lamoni. Graceland had two runners in scoring position after a walk and a double. The next batter then blasted a three-run home run to make the score 6-0 after three innings.
Peru State went down in order in the fourth. Graceland hit its third home run of the game this time a two-run shot to make the score 8-0. The Yellowjackets scored two runs on one hit.
Graceland won the first game 8-0 after five innings of play.
Maddi Post (Lincoln) took the loss pitching in two innings striking out four batters giving up five runs on five hits four of the runs were earned.
Cheyenne Leach (Wymore) pitched two innings in relief striking out two batters giving up three runs on two hits all three runs were earned.
Camryn Craddock (Waverly), Mans and Ohlde were the only three batters to record a hit.
Game 2 @ Graceland L 5-1
The Bobcats still struggled to find offense in game two out of the gate. Graceland scored its first run of the game in the first from a sacrifice fly. The Yellowjackets scored one run on one hit and left two on the bags.
Nothing happened offensively for either team in inning number two. Peru State went 1-2-3 at the top of the third inning. Graceland scored its second run of the game in the home half of the third but left two runners on base.
Both teams went three up three down in the fourth inning. Peru State went down in order in the fifth inning. The Yellowjackets poured it on in the fifth inning. They scored three runs on a walk, a single and an advance to make the score 5-0 Graceland.
Graceland scored three runs on three hits an error and left two on base.
The bats came alive for the Bobcats in the sixth with two outs as Mans hit a home run to score the first run of the game for the Bobcats.
Morgan Wilke (Bakersfield, Calif.) then hit a double. A foul out would end the inning.
Unfortunately, the Bobcats would not find anymore runs the rest of the way as they fell to the Yellowjackets 5-1.
Lanie Dreyer (Anniston, Ala.) pitched 5.1 innings striking out four batters giving up five runs on seven hits three were earned.
Bailey Bitz (Ravenna) pitched 0.2 innings in relief.
Dreyer, Mans and Wilke each recorded a hit. Mans had the lone RBI.
