Peru State Softball Drops Two at Grand View

 
(Peru, Neb)—The Peru State softball team lost two games at Grand View on Friday, April 7. The Bobcats lost the first game 10-1 in six innings and the second game 11-1 in five innings.
 
Below is a breakdown of how the doubleheader went…
 
Game 1 L 10-1 (F/6) @ Grand View
 
Grand View got the scoring started in the bottom of the first inning after they had the bases loaded after a walk, a single and a hit by pitch. A sac-fly to left field scored the first run of the game for the Vikings.
 
Peru State came out swinging in the second inning as Lanie Dreyer (Anniston, Ala.) hit a home run to tie the game at one. Kaelyn Hamblen (Papillion) then hit a double and Maddie Howard (Council Bluffs, Iowa) drew a walk. Unfortunately, the Bobcats left the two runners stranded as the game was knotted at one heading into the third inning.
 
The Vikings retook the lead in the home half of the third off an RBI double to make the score 2-1. Grand View scored one run on one hit and left two on. Peru State went three up three down in the top of the fourth inning.
 
Grand View extended its lead in the bottom of the fourth from two RBI singles, the first one from a singled bunt and then the second just a single to make the score 4-1. The Vikings scored two runs on three hits and left one on base.
 
 Jami Mans (Fairbury) was able to get into scoring position after reaching on an error and advancing on a wild pitch. Morgan Wilke (Bakersfield, Calif.) then hit a two out single as there were runners on the corners. A strikeout ended the inning leaving two Bobcats on the bags.
 
Grand View hit a leadoff double to start the home half of the fifth. Then a two-run blast over the fence made the score 6-1 Vikings. Peru State was not able to get any offense going in the sixth.
 
The Vikings started the sixth with two singles, the second a bunted single. They scored the seventh run by an error and the eighth run on a double steal. Then a two run-home run ended the game with the mercy rule 10-1.
 
Cheyenne Leach (Wymore) took the loss pitching four innings striking out a batter giving up six earned runs on eight hits. Bailey Bitz (Ravenna) pitched 1.1 innings in relief giving up four runs on three hits three were earned.
 
Dreyer, Hamblen, Rothschild and Wilke all recorded a hit. Dreyer was the lone RBI.
 
Game 2 L 11-1 (F/5) @ Grand View
 
Mans hit a one out single to start game two she then stole second to get into scoring position. Unfortunately, she was left stranded on second base.
 
Grand View hit back-to-back doubles to start the home half of the first. Later in the inning the Bobcats made an impressive play at the plate to keep the score at a draw.
 
Peru State grounded into a double play to end the offense in the second inning for the Bobcats. The Vikings scored four runs in the second. The first from an RBI single, then two more from an RBI double and the fourth one from a sacrifice fly out to center. Grand View scored four runs on three hits.
 
Ellie Ohlde (Fairbury) hit a two-out single and then Mans hit a double to get two runners into scoring position. A strikeout ended the Bobcat threat. There was not much going for the Vikings in the home half of the third.
 
The Bobcats went down in order in the fourth. Grand View scored seven runs on four hits in the bottom of the fourth. They scored their fifth run from an RBI double. Later in the inning the bases were loaded. The Vikings scored their sixth and seventh runs from an RBI walk and a fielder's choice.
 
Two more doubles scored three more runs for the Vikings and then a single scored the Vikings 11th run of the game.
 
Dreyer hit a leadoff single in the top of the fifth. Then Ohlde hit a single and both advanced a base on a wild pitch. Mans then hit an RBI single as Dreyer would come into score to make it 11-1. A strikeout ended the game as Grand View won 11-1.
 
Dreyer took the loss pitching two innings striking out one batter giving up four earned runs on five hits. Maddi Post (Lincoln) pitched an inning giving up four earned runs on two hits. Bitz pitched 0.2 innings giving up three earned runs on three hits. Hailey Wessel (Malcolm) also stepped into the circle.
 
Mans had three hits on the day and the lone RBI.
