(Peru, Neb.)—The Peru State softball team dropped both games to Evangel Friday afternoon. The Bobcats lost 10-0 in the first game and 10-2 in five innings in the second game. The Bobcats are now 2-15 overall and 0-2 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play while the Valor are now 15-7 overall and 2-0 in Heart play.
Below is a breakdown of how the doubleheader went…
Game 1 vs. Evangel L 10-0
Evangel hit a home run in the top of the first with two down to take an early 1-0 lead. The Bobcats went three up three down in the bottom of the first.
The Valor threatened in the top of the second inning after the leadoff hitter walked and stole second, then a sac bunt had the runner 60-feet away from the plate. A pop up to third ended the Valor threat. Peru State went down in order in the home half of the second inning.
Evangel scored three runs in the third inning the first via a bunt and then a two-run home run had the Valor up 4-0. Evangel scored three runs on three hits and left one on in the third.
Caryle Rothschild
(Eros, La.) hit a leadoff single in the bottom of the third inning. She would later be called out on a fielder's choice.
Maddie Howard (Council Bluffs, Iowa) was then hit by a pitch as the Bobcats had runners on first and second.
Ellie Ohlde (Fairbury) singled to left field but the Valor would get the runner out headed to third. An unassisted groundout ended the Bobcat threat. Peru State scored no runs on two hits and left two on.
There was not much offense between the Valor and the Bobcats in the fourth inning. The Valor loaded the bases in the top of the fifth inning from a double to center field, a hit by pitch and a walk.
Peru State made a heads up play to get the runner out at home on a fielder's choice. Then a two RBI double made the score 6-0 Valor. Evangel scored two runs on two hits and left two on in the fifth.
The Bobcats went three up three down in the home half of the fifth inning. Evangel scored its seventh run of the game on an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning. Peru State went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the sixth.
An RBI double in the top of the seventh inning scored the eighth run for the Valor. Then two sac flies scored runs nine and ten for the Valor. Evangel scored three runs on two hits and left one on base.
Autumn Dixon (Stillwell, Kan.) was able to get on base in the final inning via a hit by pitch. Rothschild then singled as Peru State had runners on first and second. A pop-up to short ended the first game.
Maddi Post (Lincoln) took the loss pitching four innings, striking out one batter giving up four runs on five hits all four runs were earned.
Lanie Dreyer (Anniston, Ala.) pitched three innings striking out three batters giving up six runs on four hits and five runs were earned.
Rothschild led the way in hits with two.
Game 2 vs. Evangel L 10-2 (F/5)
The Valor kept the bats hot right away in game two as a two RBI single made the score 2-0 right away. Later in the first inning Evangel had another two RBI single to make the score 4-0 Valor.
Ohlde led off the bottom of the first for the Bobcats with a single. She then advanced to second on a wild pitch and stole third. The Bobcats were unable to bring her around to score.
Evangel scored its fifth run of the game after a one-out double where the baserunner advanced to third on a throwing error. Then a sac-fly to center field brought the runner home. Evangel scored one run on two hits an error and left two on.
Peru State was not able to get much offense going in the home half of the second inning. The Valor scored three more runs in the top of the third inning. The Valor were able to get a two-out rally going starting with a single then a stolen base.
Another RBI single scored the sixth run of the game. Then a little later a two RBI single scored the seventh and eighth runs of the game for the Valor. Evangel scored three runs on three hits an error and left two on base.
Camryn Craddock (Waverly) led off the bottom of the third with a double into left field. Later in the inning
Morgan Wilke (Bakersfield, Calif.) hit an RBI single to get the Bobcats on the board for the first time on Friday afternoon. Then an RBI single from
Andrea Page (Palisade) made the score 8-2.
Peru State scored two runs on three hits and left one on base in the home half of the third. Both teams went three up three down in the fourth inning. The Valor scored two more runs off RBI singles with two down in the top of the fifth inning to make the score 10-2.
Evangel scored two runs on three hits an error and left two on base. Peru State went three up three down in the fifth and final inning.
Bailey Bitz (Ravenna) took the loss giving up three runs on two hits all three runs were earned.
Cheyenne Leach (Wymore) pitched five innings striking out three batters giving up seven runs on ten hits all seven runs were earned.
Craddock, Ohlde, Page and Wilke all had one hit, while Page and Wilke each had an RBI.
Peru State hits the road to take on MidAmerica Nazarene this Saturday, March 24, in Olathe, Kan. First pitch is set for 1:00 and 3:00 p.m.
