Peru State Baseball Drops Two at Central Methodist

 
(Peru, Neb.)—The Peru State baseball team fell to Central Methodist in both games of the doubleheader Sunday afternoon losing 15-2 in game one and 12-3 in game two. The Bobcats are now 3-7 overall and 0-2 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play while the Eagles improve to 12-8 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
 
The back half of the series has been postponed due to the Heart's cold weather policy. The makeup date is to be determined.
 
Below is a breakdown of how each game in the doubleheader went…
 
Game 1 L 15-2 @ Central Methodist
 
In the top of the first inning Peru State went down in order and then the Central Methodist bats got going early scoring eight runs in the bottom half.
 
The Eagles scored its first run of the game on an RBI single after two balks, later in the inning after another balk the Eagles plated their second run of the game. A third RBI single made the score 3-0 in the bottom of the first inning.
 
A sac-fly and then a two RBI single made the score 6-0 still in the first inning of play. A two-RBI double made the score 8-0 Central Methodist. The Eagles scored eight runs on seven hits no errors and left one on in the first.
 
Peru State was not able to get much going offensively in the second inning outside of a Wesley Bradford (Bakersfield, Calif.) walk. Central Methodist plated three more in the second inning scoring two runs on an RBI double and then a third run on a productive groundout.
 
The Eagles were leading the Bobcats 11-0 after two innings of play. Peru State got its first hit of the game in the top of the third inning from a single by Jacob Aberg (Lincoln) but the Bobcats were unable to bring the baserunner around to score.
 
Central Methodist scored its 12th run of the game on a sac-fly out to left field in the home half of the third inning. The Eagles scored one run on one hit two errors and left one on base.
 
The scoring subsided in the fourth inning as neither team was able to score. Peru State was able to get its first run of the game in the top of the fifth inning as Angel Andrades (Humacao, P.R.) hit a solo home run into right field. The Bobcats scored one run on three hits and left two on base in the top of the fifth as the score was 12-1.
 
The Eagles score two more runs in the bottom of fifth inning the first from an RBI single the next one on a fielder's choice as Central Methodist now led 14-1. The Eagles scored two runs on three hits and left two on base.
 
Bradford hit an RBI single in the top of the sixth inning as the score was now 14-2 but that is all the Bobcats could muster as it was a rough day from the plate.
 
The Eagles scored a 15th run on a productive ground out in the bottom of the sixth inning. That woudl be the final score as Central Methodist took game one of the series 15-2.
 
Aberg and Randy Jimenez (Santiago De Los Caballeros) tied for the lead in hits both with two. Andrades and Bradford each had an RBI.
 
Wikander Guiterrez took the loss pitching 0.1 innings striking out one batter giving up six runs on five hits all six runs were earned. Garrett Pavletich (Bakersfield, Calif.) pitched 4.2 innings striking out one batter giving up eight runs on nine hits seven were earned. Josue Cisnero (Santo Domingo, D.R.) pitched one inning striking out one batter and giving up one unearned run.
 
Game 2 L 12-3 @ Central Methodist
 
The Bobcats started the second game off better then the first as Yodelvy Garcia scored and RBI single to make the score 1-0 Peru State right away. The Bobcats scored one run on three hits and left two on base in the top of the first.
 
Central Methodist went 1-2-3 in the first inning. The Bobcats were only able to get one hit in the second inning and the Eagles were able to gain the lead in the bottom of the second. The first Eagle runner scored from a balk tying the game at one. The next player then advanced to score on a wild pitch as it was 2-1 Eagles after two.
 
In the top of the third inning Reynolds blasted a two-run home run over the right field fence to regain the lead for the Bobcats as they led 3-2. Peru State scored two runs on two hits and left one on base.
 
The lead was short lived as Central Methodist plated five runs in the bottom of the third inning. The Eagles tied the game at three with an RBI single then took the lead on a two-run home run to make the score 5-3.
 
Then the Eagles hit a second home run as they doubled up the Bobcats leading 6-3. An RBI double later in the third inning scored the seventh run of the game for Central Methodist. The Eagles scored five runs on four hits an error and left one on base.
 
Peru State went down in order in the top of the fourth inning. Central Methodist put the game away in the bottom of the fourth inning scoring five more runs. Eagles hit a two run-home run to make the score 9-3 in the fourth.
 
Then a bunt single scored the tenth run of the game for Central Methodist. The Eagles scored its last two runs of the game from a sac-fly to right and a fielder's choice. Central Methodist led the Bobcats 12-3. The Eagles scored five runs on four hits no errors and left one on base in the fourth inning.
 
There was not much action offensively for the final three innings as Central Methodist took the 12-3 win to sweep the doubleheader.
 
Reynolds led the way in hits and RBIs with two each.
 
Sergio Benitez (Carolina, P.R.) took the loss pitching in three innings giving up nine runs on eight hits eight runs were earned. Brenton Pitt (Fremont) pitched in two innings giving up three runs on two hits all three runs were earned.
 
Hunter Abney (King City, Mo.) pitched in one inning striking out one batter.
 
Peru State hits the road this weekend to play a four-game series at Grand View in Des Moines, Iowa on Saturday, March 18, and Sunday, March 19. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. each day.
