Women’s Basketball Defeats the MidAmerica Nazarene Pioneers in Exciting Matchup

(Peru, Neb.)- The Peru State Women's Basketball Team defeated the MidAmerica Nazarene Pioneers on Wednesday, December 13, 70-63. The Bobcats are now 2-6 in the Heart of America conference and 5-7 overall.
 
In the first quarter, the Bobcats fought point for point with the Pioneers with Olivia Williams (Sr., Minneapolis, MN) starting off the Bobcats with a made 3-pointer. Kylie Diaz (Fr., Albertville, MN) had back to back layups and a final jump shot finished out the first quarter for the Bobcats. They led the Pioneers, 16-13.
 
The Bobcats had a slow second quarter against the Pioneers. Kaylan Larry (Sr., Little Rock, AR) had two made layups along with shots from Kylie Diaz, Samantha Stewart (Sr., Mount Ayr, IA) and Hailey Ingram (Jr., Omaha, NE). The Pioneers were able to pull away with a nine point lead going into half with a score of 26-35.
 
Going into the second half, the Pioneers were able to increase their lead to 15 points but the Bobcats weren't giving up the game. The Bobcats had seven fast break points 10 points off turnovers in the third quarter. Maddy Duncan (Sr., Hamburg, IA) came out hot with back to back 3-pointers and a layup in the quarter. A final jump shot from Kaylan Larry finished the quarter as the Bobcats were able to close the gap to 48-50.
 
In the final quarter, Kaylan Larry closed the gap to tie the game with made free throws. Larry then proceeded to get a steal and make a 3-pointer to put the Bobcats up 53-50 within the first 45 seconds of the quarter. Multiple shots by Kylie Diaz and Kaylan Larry led the Bobcats to the win 70-63.
 
Kaylan Larry had a big game for the Bobcats with 22 points, six rebounds and four steals. Kylie Diaz had 14 points with seven rebounds and five assists. Maddy Duncan also tallied 14 points with three steals and two rebounds against the Pioneers. Samantha Stewart scored 11 points with eight rebounds, seven steals and two assists in their win.
 
Next: The Bobcats take on the Culver-Stockton Wildcats on Saturday, December 16th. Tipoff is set for 12:00 PM. Go Bobcats!
