Men’s Basketball Gets Thriller Overtime Win at Benedictine

(Peru, Neb.)- The Peru State Men's Basketball team beat the Benedictine Ravens in an overtime thriller on Tuesday night in Atchison, Kan. The Bobcats are now 6-1 overall and 2-1 in the Heart of America Conference.
 
The Bobcats came out in the first half ready to play with Christian Tidiane (Jr., Council Bluffs, IA) scoring within the first 20 seconds of the game. Tidiane led the half with six points and three rebounds helping the Bobcats keep it close throughout the half. The Bobcats ended the half slow as they struggled to get their shots to fall. The score going into half was 24-31.
 
Coming out of half, the Ravens were able to get a 13 point lead but the Bobcats didn't let this get them down. A big three pointer from DeAndre Johns (Jr., Kenosha, WI) assisted by Quentin Wright (Fr., Flower Mound, TX) started the Bobcats towards a comeback for the win. With 03:44 on the clock, Sayvon Traylor (Sr., Atlanta, GA) successfully closed the gap with a made three pointer. The Bobcats and Ravens continued to battle to the end as a free throw from David Wingett Jr. (Sr., Winnebago, NE), tied up the score at 53-53 to end the half sending the game into overtime.
 
The Bobcats had a thrilling overtime run as they shot seven free throws in the five overtime minutes. Tough defense by the Bobcats held the Ravens from getting any easy shots up. The Bobcats were able to stop the Ravens with 00:02 left in overtime as they leading 61-60. A final free throw by Skyler Wilson (Jr., Omaha, NE) finished out the game with a win 62-60.
 
David Wingett Jr., had a double double in their win over the Ravens, getting 18 points and 10 rebounds. Sayvon Traylor and DeAndre Johns both had nine points, four rebounds and three assists for the Bobcats. Ajantae Hogan (Jr., Lincoln, NE) tallied up seven points two rebounds with Amir Poat having six points and six rebounds in their win.
 
Next: The Bobcats will travel to Aberdeen, S.D., this Friday, November 24, to take on DII Northern State University in an exhibition matchup. Tipoff is set for 7:30 PM.
