Peru State Men’s Basketball Extends Winning Streak to Five After Grand View Win

 
(Peru, Neb.)—The Peru State men's basketball team defeated Grand View 82-73 on Wednesday night to extend their winning streak to five games. The Bobcats are now 16-5 overall and 11-4 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play while the Vikings fall to 5-15 overall and 3-11 in conference play.
 
Below is a breakdown of how the game went…
 
It was a back-and-forth affair in the first four minutes of the game as the Bobcats were up 11-7 after a Troy Houghton (Omaha) layup. The Bobcats then extended their lead out to seven as they were up 18-11 after a layup from Jibril Harris (Chicago).
 
Grand View then cut the lead to three points with around 13 minutes to play as Peru State was now up 18-15. The Bobcats then got their lead back out to seven after a three from Harris and a layup from Sayvon Traylor (Atlanta).
 
The Bobcats were up 29-17 after a layup from Traylor, the Vikings then went on a 8-0 run to cut the deficit to four as they trailed 29-25. The Bobcats then stretched its lead back out to eight after Lorenzo Anderson (Lithonia, Ga.) had a dunk and Houghton made a layup to make the score 33-25.
 
Grand View cut the lead down to four right before the half 35-31, but Peru State would hold a 39-33 lead at the break.
 
Peru State would maintain its slim single digit lead for the beginning stages of the second half as they were up 44-35 after and-one layup from Houghton. The Bobcats a little later in the second half extended their lead out by 11 after a layup from Traylor.
 
The Vikings then cut the lead down to six with around 14 minutes to go in the game as they were down 52-46. Peru State then went on a quick 5-0 run to make the score 57-46, but the Vikings would then cut the lead right back down to six as they trailed 57-51.
 
Grand View with around ten minutes to play then cut the lead down to five trailing 59-54 before Donzell Johnson (Bloomington, Ill.) hit a huge three.
 
Harris hit a huge three a few moments later as the Bobcats took a 65-56 lead with under ten minutes to play. Grand View would then later cut the lead down to five once more trailing 65-60.
 
The Bobcats would extend their lead back out to 11 after Houghton slammed home a dunk leading 71-60. Peru State would hold onto its lead and win 82-73.
 
Peru State shot 35-of-58 from the field shooting 60.3%, 7-of-19 from three shooting 36.8% and 5-of-10 from the charity stripe shooting 50%.
 
Grand View shooting 30-of-60 from the field shooting 50%, 3-of-17 from 17.6% and 10-of-10 from the line shooting 100%.
 
Peru State outscored Grand View 52-42 in points in the paint, 15-12 in points off turnovers and Grand View outscored Peru State 16-9 in bench points.
 
Houghton led the way in points with 23, Wingett Jr. 19 and Harris finished with 17. Harris led the way in rebounds with eight. Man Man Baker (Aurora, Colo.) finished with a team high six assists.
 
Peru State hosts Graceland this Saturday, January 28. Tip-Off is set for 4:00 p.m.
