Peru State Falls to Nebraska Wesleyan in Four Sets Monday Night

Box Score (Peru, Neb.)—On Monday, September 19, the Peru State volleyball team fell to Nebraska Wesleyan in four sets rounding out nonconference play. The Bobcats are now 5-9 overall as a big weekend in Kansas looms.
 
Below is a breakdown of how the four-set match went.
 
In the first set the Prairie Wolves started on a 7-1 run before Michelle Beer (Salem) stopped the run with a kill. The 'Cats would get within six from a kill by Kim Krise (Briggsdale, Colo.) to make the score 10-4.
 
Then a 7-2 run by the Prairie Wolves would make the score 17-6, before Beer would get a kill to make the score 17-7. Then NWU would go on an 8-2 run to close out the first set winning 25-9. The final two points Peru State got were from a service error and a kill by Kylee Fischer (Bellevue).
 
The Bobcats completely flipped the script in the second set as they led 10-5 off a kill from Allie Schneider (Humphrey). Then a 9-3 run by the 'Cats had them with a 19-8 lead. Kennedy Miller (Plattsmouth), Katie Mendick (Bellevue), Fischer and Schneider all had kills during the run.
 
The Prairie Wolves were able to score six more points but the 'Cats finished set two winning 25-14 with kills from Beer, Sidney Peck (Manitoba, Canada) and Schneider.
 
In the third set  Nebraska Wesleyan started on an 8-2 run, before Fischer would stop the bleeding with a kill of her own. The 'Cats would get the score within four 9-5 from a kill by Kim Krise (Briggsdale, Colo.).
 
A 6-2 run by NWU would have them with a 17-9 lead. The 'Cats would claw their way back into third set as a 7-2 run with kills by Fischer and Krise and a few errors from the Prairie Wolves had the Bobcats within three down 19-16.
 
A 6-3 run by the Prairie Wolves ended the third set 25-19. Mendick had the last three points for the 'Cats in the third set with two aces and a kill.
 
The Prairie Wolves came out hot in the fourth set with a 6-1 run. A kill by Beer and an ace by Peck would have the 'Cats down 6-3. NWU would go on a 9-2 run to make the score 15-5 in the fourth set.
 
The Prairie Wolves would end up winning the final set 25-14. As the Bobcats would fall 3-1 in the final nonconference game of the year.
 
Beer led the way in kills with ten, while Schneider and Mendick finished with six each. Mattie Nichols (Auburn), Gordon, and Peck each had an ace. Beer, Krise and Miller all had two blocks each.
 
Schneider led the way in assists with 17, Gordon had 14 and Nichols had 3. Nichols led the way in digs with 15, while Schneider had 12 and Peck had seven.
 
Here's what head coach Madison Kindle said about the match…
 
"We are really proud of how we responded in set 2," said coach Kindle. "There are pockets of greatness, it's there, now it's just doing that consistently. Just have to keep fighting for every point."
 
The Bobcats have a busy weekend in Kansas as two Heart matches against Benedictine and Baker are on the docket. Benedictine game is on Friday, September 23, first serve is set for 7:00 p.m., while Baker is on Saturday, September 24, first serve is set for 7:00 p.m.
