(Peru, Neb.)—On Tuesday, April 26, the Peru State softball team went 2-1 vs. Graceland. The first game of the tripleheader was a continuation of a postponed game at Graceland due to rain. The next two games were a part of a regularly scheduled doubleheader. The first game had already been completed with the Bobcats defeating the Yellowjackets 12-9.
Peru State is now 14-31 overall and 9-25 in Heart conference play while Graceland is 13-30 overall and 9-21 in conference play.
Below is a breakdown of how each game of the Tripleheader went…
Game 2 (The First 3 and 2/3rds innings were played in Lamoni, Iowa the rest were in Peru, Neb.)
The Bobcats went down in order in the first inning. The Yellowjackets hit a leadoff single in the bottom of the first and the runner advanced to second. Then a walk had the Yellowjackets threatening as they had runners on the corners after an advance.
Graceland then hit a three run homerun to break open the scoring. The 'Jackets then drew a walk but the runner would be bounced in a fielder's choice. The hot bats continued in the first for the Yellowjackets as they singled and threatened again with runners on first and second. Graceland scored three runs on three hits and left two on in the first inning.
Peru State threatened early in the second as
Carli Kohout (Cortland) and
Jerica German (Cortland) drew walks, both runners advanced into scoring position. Then
Carlye Rothschild (Eros, La.) reached on an error as the 'Cats had the bases loaded. Three straight strikeouts ended a promising inning. Peru State had no runs on no hits, an error and left three on base.
Graceland went three up three down in the second inning.
Ellie Ohlde (Fairbury) hit a single to leadoff the third and then advanced to second on an error from the center fielder.
Payton Beckmann (Syracuse) then blasted a two run home run over the fence. Peru State was now just down one as they were trailing 3-2. The Bobcats had two runs on two hits, an error and left no one on in the third.
Graceland reached on an error in the bottom of the third inning but that was all for the 'Jackets. Rothschild hit a leadoff home run in top of the fourth inning to tie the game at three. Then after one down
Jessye Rowland (Pearcy, Ark.) drew a walk and
Camryn Craddock (Waverly, Neb.) hit a double as the 'Cats threatened with runners in scoring position.
Ohlde was then hit by a pitch to load the bases for the Bobcats. Then Beckmann hit a two RBI double as the 'Cats now led 5-3. Kohout hit a double with two outs and as Ohlde and Beckmann came into score and the Peru State lead grew to four. The 'Cats scored five runs on four hits and left one on base.
Graceland with one down in the bottom of the fourth hit a homerun as the 'Jackets now trailed 7-4. Two singles had the 'Jackets threatening with two down in the fourth inning.

A third single of the inning had the 'Jackets with the bases juiced. Peru State held serve clinging to a 7-4 lead. Graceland scored one run on four hits and left three on base.
Rothschild hit a double in the top of the fifth inning, but it was the only hit of the inning for Peru State. Graceland went 1-2-3 in the home half of the fifth.
Ohlde hit a leadoff double in the top of the sixth inning. Beckmann then hit a single and advanced to second as the 'Cats had runners in scoring position. Kohout then hit a sac fly as Ohlde came into score as the Bobcats now doubled up the Yellowjackets leading 8-4. Peru State scored one run on two hits and left one on base.
Graceland hit a one out double in the bottom of the sixth inning, but a pop out and a fly out ended the sixth for the 'Jackets.
Hailey Wessel (Malcolm) homered with one down in the top of the seventh inning as the Bobcats now led 9-4. Peru State scored one run on one hit and left no one on.
Graceland singled twice in the seventh inning to put the pressure on Peru State but the Bobcats' defense bowed up and won the game 9-4.
Cheyenne Leach (Wymore) pitched a complete game striking out eight batters giving up four runs on ten hits-the four runs were earned.
Beckmann led the way in hits and RBIs as she had a stellar day at the plate with three hits and four RBIs.
Regularly Scheduled Doubleheader
Game 3
The 'Jackets led off the first with two singles as they put the pressure on the Bobcats. Then two strikeouts and a lineout ended the inning for Graceland. Peru State went three up three down in the bottom of the first.
Graceland doubled in the top of the second with one out, but they were not able to get anything else offensively. The Bobcats went down in order in the home half of the second inning.
A single and then a double with one out in the third had two 'Jackets runners' in scoring position. Then a sac fly scored the first run of the game for Graceland. The 'Jackets scored one run on two hits and left one on. Peru State went three up three down in the bottom of the third.
Graceland started the top of the fourth inning by reaching on an error. Then a sac bunt moved the runner over to second. A double with two down scored the second run of the game for Graceland. The 'Jackets scored one run on one hit, an error and left one on base.
The 'Cats got their first hit of the game from
Morgan Wilke (Bakersfield, Calif.) with two down in the fourth as she hit a single. That was all for Peru State in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Graceland and Peru State both went three up three down in the fifth inning. Graceland reached first on an error and then hit a single to start the top of the sixth inning. The runners advanced into scoring position from a fly out, then a single scored the third run of the game for the 'Jackets as they now led 3-1. Graceland scored one run on two hits, an error and left two on base.
Singles from Rothschild,
Autumn Dixon (Stilwell, Kan.) and Beckmann loaded the bases for the 'Cats in the bottom of the sixth inning. Then a sac fly from Wilke scored the first run of the game for the Bobcats. Peru State scored one run on three hits and left two on base.
Graceland hit a leadoff single in the top of the seventh, a sac bunt then moved the runner over to second. A two out single scored the fourth run of the game for the Yellowjackets. Graceland scored one run on two hits and left one on base.
German hit a leadoff single in the bottom of the seventh inning but that was all the 'Cats could get as they lost the game 4-1.
Cheyenne Leach pitched a complete game striking out six batters giving up four runs on ten hits-the two runs were earned.
Beckmann, Dixon, German, Rothschild and Wilke all tied for hits in game three with two. Wilke had the lone RBI.
Game 4
Graceland started the first inning of the final game of the series with a single and then a fielder's choice had runners on first and second. A one out single then had the bases loaded for the Bobcats. A walk with two down scored the first run of the game for the 'Jackets. Graceland scored one run on two hits, an error and left three on base.
Beckmann singled with one out in the bottom of the first, then Wilke walked as the 'Cats had runners on first and second. Both runners advanced into scoring position. A strike out and a fly out ended a promising half inning. Peru State had no runs on one hit and two left on base.
Graceland drew a walk with two down in the top of the second, then the base runner stole second to get into scoring position. A strikeout ended the inning for the 'Jackets.
Rothschild singled with one out in the home half of the second. Wessel then singled and reached second and third on an error as Rothschild came into score tying the game at one. Wessel then scored on a wild pitch as the 'Cats now led 2-1.
Ohlde drew a walk and Beckmann singled as the Bobcats had runners on first and second. Wilke hit a two RBI double as Ohlde and Beckmann came into score making the score 4-1. German then drew a walk. Kohout singled as Wilke came into score as the 'Cats now led by four. The hot bats continued for the Bobcats as Dixon hit a single and German came into score. Peru State was now leading 6-1. The Bobcats scored six runs on six hits, an error and left two on base.
Graceland led off the top of the third with a single and then reached on an error. A sac bunt then moved the runners into scoring position. A wild pitch scored the second run of the game for the Yellowjackets. Then the 'Jackets cut the lead in half as they scored on a fielder's choice. Graceland scored two runs on one hit, an error and left one on base.
The Bobcats started the home half of the third with a single and a walk from Wessel and
Mya Mathes (Ankeny, Iowa). Ohlde hit an RBI single as the 'Cats now led 7-3. Wilke then reached on a fielder's choice with two down. German hit an RBI single as Peru State scored two runs on three hits and left two on base in the third.
Graceland led off the top of the fourth with two singles, and then a fly out moved the runners over to second and third. A productive ground out scored the fourth run of the game for the 'Jackets. Graceland scored one run on two hits and left one on.
Dixon and Rothschild hit back-to-back singles in the bottom of the fourth inning. A third straight single from Wessel scored the ninth run of the game for the 'Cats.
Alaina Lacy (Lincoln) came into pinch hit for the 'Cats and she hit an RBI single to give the Bobcats their tenth run of the game.
Cassie Pearson (Aurora, Colo.) came into pinch run.
Beckmann had productive ground out as Wessel came into score. The Bobcats were now leading Graceland 11-4. Wilke hit an RBI single to bring in Pearson as Peru State had a 12-4 lead. The Bobcats scored four runs on five hits and left one on base.
The Yellowjackets were able to draw two walks in the top of the fifth but left both stranded as the 'Cats defeated the 'Jackets 12-4.
Alana Krieser pitched a complete game striking out seven batters giving up four runs on five hits-two were earned.
Wessel led the way in hits in the final game with three. Wilke led the team in RBIs with three.
Peru State is on the road for a two game series at Culver-Stockton on Saturday, April 30, and then they are at home one final time this season to take on No. 9 Central Methodist in a doubleheader on Sunday, May 1. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m. each day.
