Peru State Women’s Basketball Drops Game at Grand View

 
(Peru, Neb.)—The Peru State women's basketball team fell to Grand View 78-61 on Wednesday night in Des Moines, Iowa. The Bobcats fall to 5-8 overall and 1-6 in Heart of America Athletic conference play while the Vikings improve to 10-2 overall and 6-1 in conference play.
 
Below is a breakdown of how the game went…
 
It was a low scoring first quarter as the game was tied up at six apiece with exactly five minutes to go. Then Olivia Williams (Minneapolis, Minn.) hit a go-ahead layup as the Bobcats were up two.
 
The Bobcats and the Vikings would then trade buckets on the next few possessions before Peru State went on a 5-0 run to take a 15-11 lead late in the first quarter. Contributing to the run were baskets by Williams, an and-one by Williams and Danielle Howard (Uniontown, Kan.).
 
Peru State had a slim lead after one quarter of play up 15-14. The Bobcats then went on another 5-0 run to start the second quarter capped off by a layup from Sam Stewart (Mount Ayr, Iowa).
 
Grand View then went on a 12-4 run of its own to take a 26-23 lead with a little over six minutes to play. Maddy Duncan (Hamburg, Iowa) hit a huge three to tie the game with around 5:30 to play.
 
The Vikings would get the lead out to four momentarily at 32-28, before Julie Miller (Easton, Kan.) cut the lead back down to two. A little later in the second quarter the Bobcats went on a 6-0 run to take a 36-33 lead after a layup from Stewart with under a minute to play.
 
Grand View ended the half on a 4-0 run to take a 37-36 lead into halftime.
 
The Vikings started the second half the way the ended the first as they went on a 9-3 run to take a 48-39 lead in the third quarter with six minutes to go. Duncan then hit a huge three point shot to get the score back within two possessions.
 
Miller then hit a jumper to the score down to four as the Bobcats were trailing 48-44. A quick 5-0 run for the Vikings had the lead grow back up to nine leading 53-44. The Bobcats made a quick bucket from Jescenia Mosley (Shenandoah, Iowa) to make the score 53-46.
 
 Grand View closed out the third quarter on an 8-2 run leading 61-48 heading into the final quarter of play. Peru State would cut the lead down to ten right away in the fourth after a free throw from Hailey Ingram (Omaha) and a jumper from Mosley.
 
The Vikings then went on an 8-2 run to take a 69-53 lead with just under five minutes to play in regulation. Duncan stopped the run with a layup then a steal by Williams had the Bobcats in transition but an errant pass gave the Vikings the ball right back.
 
Grand View made Peru State pay with a three as its lead grew to 17 leading 72-55. Peru State was held to six points for the rest of the game as they fell to Grand View 78-61.
 
Peru State shot 22-of-62 from the field shooting 35.5%, 2-of-15 from the deep shooting 13.3% and 15-of-17 from the charity stripe shooting 88.2%.
 
Grand View shot 29-of-73 from the field shooting 39.7%, 11-of-37 from three shooting 29.7% and 9-of-11 from the line shooting 81.8%.
 
Grand View outscored Peru State in the paint 30-28, Peru State had 14 points off turnovers compared to Grand View's ten, Grand View outscored Peru State 27-4 in second chance points and Peru State outscored Grand View 17-15 off the bench.
 
Stewart finished with a team high 11 points, Duncan and Mosley finished with ten each. Mosley led the way in rebounds with seven. Duncan finished with a team high four assists.
 
Peru State hits the road one final time this semester to take on Evangel in Springfield, Mo. Tip-Off is scheduled for 2:00 p.m., on Saturday, December 17.
