Peru State Men’s Basketball Strong Second Half Leads to Victory at Grand View

(Peru, Neb.)—The Peru State men's basketball team blew out Grand View 98-72 in Des Moines, Iowa on Wednesday night. The Bobcats improve to 9-3 overall and 4-2 in Heart of America Athletic conference play while the Vikings fall to 3-9 overall and 1-5 in conference play.
 
Below is a breakdown of how the game went…
 
The Vikings got out to an 11-5 lead early in the first half. The Bobcats would cut the lead to four a few times and then down to three trailing 15-12 after Ajantae Hogan (Lincoln) hit a three. The Vikings would keep the Bobcats at arm's length a little while longer as they had a 19-15 lead.
 
Peru State then went on a 6-2 run to tie the game at 21 all after a layup from Sayvon Traylor (Atlanta). Grand View would then stretch its lead back out to five leading 26-21. The Bobcats then went on an 11-0 run to take a 32-26 lead.
 
Contributing to the run were threes by Donzell Johnson (Bloomington, Ill.), Lorenzo Anderson (Lithonia, Ga.) and a couple of free throws by Anderson. It was the Bobcats first lead since 2-0.
 
Grand View would cut the deficit to three points but the hot night from beyond the arc for the Bobcats continued as back-to-back threes from Anderson and Jibril Harris (Chicago) would get the lead back out to ten 39-29.
 
The Vikings cut the lead down to six a few more times in the first half but the Bobcats were leading 44-35 after another three from Harris. Peru State took an eight-point 48-40 lead into the break.
 
Peru State came out on an 11-2 run to start the second half as its lead got up to 17 leading 59-42 with a little over 16 minutes to play. A little later in the second half the Bobcats lead had gotten up to 20, 66-46 after a three by Traylor.
 
Grand View managed to cut the Peru State deficit down to 14 now trailing 70-56 with a little under 12 minutes to play. The Bobcats then went on a 9-0 run to take a 23-point lead after a layup from Troy Houghton (Omaha).
 
Later in the half the Bobcats went on a 12-2 run to take a 91-62 lead with around 3:30 to play. Peru State won the game by 26 points 98-72.
 
Peru State shot 37-of-59 from the field shooting 62.7%, 16-of-25 from deep shooting 64% again three off beating the record they previously set against Avila this season with 18. The Bobcats were 8-of-10 from the line shooting 80%.
 
Grand View shot 30-of-55 from the field shooting 54.5%, 6-of-17 from three shooting 35.3% and 6-of-12 from the charity stripe shooting 50%.
 
Peru State outscored Grand View in the paint 38-32, the Bobcats had 31 points off turnovers compared to the Vikings 15 and Peru State outscored Grand View 37-28 off the bench.
 
Anderson led the way in scoring with 28 points, Harris finished with 14 and had another double-double with a team high 12 boards. Man Man Baker (Aurora, Colo.) had 13 and Johnson had 12. Baker led the team with seven assists.
 
Peru State finishes the semester on the road at No. 20 Evangel, Saturday, December 17. Tip-Off is set for 4:00 p.m.
