(Peru, Neb.)—The Peru State women's basketball team dropped its final exhibition match of the season to NCAA Division II opponent Northwest Missouri State Sunday afternoon 75-61. The Bobcats are 4-3 on the season and 0-1 in Heart of America Athletic Conference play. The Bearcats are 4-1 overall on the season.
Below is a breakdown of how the final exhibition match went…
The Bobcats had a 7-4 lead early in the first quarter after four points from Sam Stewart
(Mount Ayr, Iowa) and three-point basket from Jess Mosley
(Shenandoah, Iowa). Peru State went blow-for-blow with Northwest Missouri State in the first quarter as they would either be tied or have a one-point lead multiple times.
Late in the first quarter Maddy Duncan
(Hamburg, Iowa) hit a shot from beyond the arc to take a 14-13 lead with just over two minutes to play. The Bobcats then would get one more one-point lead in the first quarter after a layup from Julie Miller
(Easton, Kan.) to go up 16-15.
The Bearcats then went on a 5-0 run the quarter to take a four-point 20-16 lead headed to the second. The Bearcats continued its run up to 12-0 in the second quarter holding the Bobcats scoreless for the first four minutes in the second quarter. Northwest Missouri State led 28-16.
Free throws by Mosley stopped the run momentarily, the Bearcats finished the second quarter on a 15-4 run holding the Bobcats to six points in the second quarter as the Bearcats held a 23-point lead going into the break up 45-22.
The Bearcats outscored the Bobcats 25-6 in the second quarter. Peru State in the beginning of the third quarter cut the lead down to 17 trailing 47-30 from buckets by Duncan, Miller and Stewart as well as a couple of free throws from Duncan.
Northwest Missouri State then went on an 8-0 run to take a 24-point lead, leading 54-30. The Bearcat lead would climb to a 26 point lead at multiple times throughout the third quarter. Northwest Missouri State was up 66-40 with around a minute left in the third quarter.
Peru State did not quit as it showed its fight and resolve in the final minute of third and entire final quarter. The Bobcats went on an 8-0 run to end the third quarter to get the score within 18 points trailing 66-48.
Contributing to the run were three pointers by Duncan and Mosley and a couple of free throws by Mosley. Peru State kept the run going in the fourth as it turned into a 13-0 run as the Bobcats trailed by 13 66-53 after a layup from Olivia Williams
(Minneapolis, Minn.).
Northwest Missouri State quickly got its lead back out to 18 after a layup leading 71-53 with a little under seven minutes to go in the game. Peru State then went on an 8-2 run to cut the deficit to 12 trailing 73-61 capped off by a Williams lay-in.
The Bearcats got their lead back out to 75-61 and there was no scoring for around the final four minutes of play as Northwest Missouri State capped off the 14-point victory.
Peru State was 21-of-60 from the field shooting 35%, they were 5-of-15 shooting 33.3% and 14-of-16 from the charity stripe shooting 87.5%.
Northwest Missouri State shot 29-of-65 from the field shooting 44.6%, they were 8-of-25 from three shooting 32% and they were 9-of-14 shooting 64.3% from the foul line.
The Bearcats had 40 points in the paint compared to the Bobcats 24, they outscored the Bobcats 37-15 on the bench and had 17 points off turnovers compared to the Bobcats 10.
Mosley and Duncan were tied for the lead in points with 17 apiece. Williams fell behind them with 11. Mosley and Williams tied for the lead in rebounds with six each. Danielle Howard

Peru State hosts Culver-Stockton on Wednesday, November 30, for a white out game. Tip-Off is set for 5:30 p.m.
