Adams and Varley Garner Top Heart Honors

(Peru, Neb.)—The Heart of America Athletic Conference recently announced their Heart North Division All-Conference Honors. Devin Adams (Pembroke Pines, Fla.) won Heart North Defensive Player of the Year for the second year in a row and Lou Varley won Co-Assistant Coach of the Year taking home some of the top accolades the conference has to offer.
 
Adams had 52 tackles and 7.5 sacks this season for the Bobcats. He also had 21 tackles for loss for a total of 82 yards.
 
Varley long-time coaching assistant won Co-Assistant Coach of the Year.
 
Below is a breakdown of to the  Peru State players earned All-Conference honors…
 
First up the Offense broken down by First Team, Second Team and then Honorable Mention…
 
Offense First Team
 
Devin Adams earned First Team All-Conference for his punting abilities. This season Adams punted 58 times this season for 2,228 yards, averaging 38.4 yards per punt, with a long of 65. He downed 22 punts inside the 20-yard line.
 
Offense Second Team
 
WR Tyreese Schieffer (Omaha), OL Amahd Baker (St. Augustine, Fla.) and Mack Boekhout (Elkhorn) were all selected for Second Team All-Conference this season.
 
Schieffer had 27 receptions for 589 yards, averaging 58.9 yards per game and seven touchdowns with a long of 77 this season. Baker led the offensive line which helped produce 251.9 yards of offense per game.
 
Boekhout was 9-of-11 on field goals this season for 82% with a long of 33-yards. He was 15-of-16 on extra points for 94% and 42 points on the year.
 
Offense Honorable Mention
 
OL Mario Locke (Chickasaw, Ala.) earned his second honorable mention recognition.
 
Defense First Team
 
Adams, Ka'Von Lofton (Apopka, Fla.), Clayton Thrasher (Mandeville, La.) and Deiontay Dozier (Mesa, Ariz.) earned First Team All-Conference this season.
 
Lofton this season had 43 tackles, nine tackles for loss, six breakups and three sacks.
 
Thrasher had 96 tackles this season, 12.5 tackles for loss, 4.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and an interception along with two blocked kicks.
 
Dozier had 33 tackles and one tackle for loss, seven pass breakups, one interception and one block that was returned for a touchdown.
 
Defense Second Team
 
Cameron Davis (Hoisington, Kan.), Craig Jones (Philadelphia, Penn.), Carlos Thomas (Gulf Port, Miss.) and Jarrius Curry (Oviedo, Fla.) all earned Second Team All-Conference this season.
 
Davis had 56 tackles with nine tackles for loss, three sacks, three pass breakups, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery. Jones had 25 tackles, one tackle for loss and seven pass breakups.
 
Thomas had 47 tackles with 4.5 tackles for loss, eight pass breakups, five interceptions and a sack. Curry had 16 tackles with 1.5 tackles for loss, eight pass breakups and one interception.
 
Defense Honorable Mention
 
Kile Bentley (Cairo) and Abe Metelus (Naples, Fla.) earned Honorable Mention this season. Bentley had 59 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, one sack, one fumble recovery and one forced fumble. Metelus had 37 tackles this season, five pass breakups and two interceptions.
 
Peru State finished this season with a 6-5 overall record and 4-1 in the Heart North division finishing in second place only behind No. 2 Grand View.
