(Peru, Neb.) – On Friday night, August 27, the #23 College of Saint Mary (CSM) Flames beat the Bobcats in three straight sets to earn the win and improve to 5-1 overall on the season.
Peru State is now 2-3 overall on the season.
The first two points of set one went to the Flames. The Bobcats were able to get on the board on an attacking error by CSM. The Flames would push the lead to six before
Dawson Sharman (Sidney) would get a kill off the assist from
Cassie Davis (Colorado Springs, Colo.).
Two more straight points would push the Flames lead to 10-4 before Alexandria Chavarria
(Hollister, Calif.) earned a kill off the pass from
Alyssa Bock (Plattsmouth).
For all of set one College of Saint Mary was in control as they would go on to win 25-11.
The Flames would get off to a hot start in the second set as they would score the first six points before
Jaddy Duarte (Brasilia, Brazil) got a kill off the pass from Davis.
CSM would go on to put three straight points to lead 9-1 before an attacking error would stop the run and give the service back to Peru State College as the 'Cats would trail 10-2.
The biggest lead in the second set for the Flames would be 14, when they led 21-7. CSM would go on to win the second set 25-10.
The Flames would score the first two points before an attacking error gave the 'Cats their first point of set three. A kill by Duarte would give cut the College of Saint Mary's advantage to one as they would still lead 3-2 early in set.
Two straight points for the Flames would extend their lead to three. The Bobcats fought back with a kill by Sharman off the pass from Davis and an error on CSM would cut the lead to 5-4 in favor of the Flames.
The game would be tight the rest of the match as Peru State would be unable to tie or take the lead during the set. The most the Bobcats would trail by would be 22-15. In the end Peru State would lose the third set 25-21.
Duarte would have game-high 10 kills. Chavarria and Hailey VanLeuven
(Elgin, Ore.) would each have four.
Davis recorded 17 assists for a team high.
Hannah Burianek (Lincoln) recorded the only ace serve for the Bobcats.
Bock added 12 digs while
Mattie Nichols (Auburn) finished with eight.
Chavarria and
Michelle Beer (Salem) each were credited with one block assist.

The Bobcats will be facing another top-ranked opponent this coming Tuesday night when they travel to Fremont to take on the third-ranked Midland Warriors at 7:30 p.m.
The Peru State junior varsity will be facing Midland at 6 p.m. that evening.
