(Peru, Neb.) – On Tuesday, Nov. 23, the Peru State Women's Basketball team lost to Clarke 84-65 in a Heart of America Athletic Conference game. The 18
th-ranked Pride improved to 7-2 overall on the year and 1-0 in the conference.
Peru State fell to 6-5 overall on the year and 1-1 in the Heart.
1st Quarter
The Pride scored the first bucket of the quarter as they led 2-0 with 9:21 remaining in the quarter. The 'Cats would go on a 6-0 run by a layup by
Lycia Peevy (Paris, Ark.), another layup by Peevy off the assist from
Maria Alcantara (Recife, Brazil), and a made layup by Alcantara off the pass from Peevy. Peru State led 6-2 with 7:59 remaining in the quarter.
Clarke would start off slow but would turn it on to end the quarter as they would out score the Bobcats 18-10 to take a first quarter lead in the game 20-16.
2nd Quarter
The Pride would start the quarter going on a 9-0 run as they would extend their lead to 13 points at 29-16. The run was stopped by a
Hailey Ingram (Omaha) three-pointer off the pass from
Jescenia Mosely (Shenandoah, Iowa).
Clarke would have an 18-point lead with 1:55 remaining until intermission as the score was 40-22. Peru State would get it within 12 points as they went on a 6-2 run to make it 42-28 going into halftime.
3rd Quarter
Bobcats got on the board first with a made layup from
Julie Miller (Easton, Kan.) off the pass from
Natasha Deal (Winnebago) as the score was 42-30 in favor of the Pride.
At the 2:07 mark Clarke would have a 21-point lead as the score was 62-41. As the first 30 minutes of basketball has been played, the Pride took a fourth-quarter lead 69-45 going into the last 10 minutes of the game.
4th Quarter
Peru State would go on a 5-2 run to start the fourth as Deal made a layup off the pass from
Libby Baumert (Plattsmouth). This was followed by a three pointer from Ingram off the pass from Peevy as the score was 71-50 with 8:38 remaining in the game.
The Pride would use the run to end the first quarter and the start of the second quarter to win a Heart game on the road 85-64 to get their first conference win of the season.
Stats
Peru State shot 24-54 for 44.4% which included 6-15 from three for 40%. At the charity stripe the Bobcats would make 11-16 for 68.8%.
The Bobcats had four players in double figures as Peevy and Miller led the way with 14 points. Miller was a very efficient 7-10 shooting on the day.
Maddy Duncan (Hamburg, Iowa) added 12 and Deal was the last Bobcat in double figures with ten.
Peevy led the 'Cats on the board with ten and having her fifth double-double of the season.
Peevy added five assists which would lead the team. Deal and Baumert added four assists each.
Ingram, Duncan, and Peevy each had two steals while
Samantha Stewart added one.
Upcoming Games
The Bobcats will play an exhibition game on Saturday, Nov. 27, against NCAA DII Emporia State in Emporia, Kan. Tip-off time will be at 5 p.m.
The regular season will continue as they will travel to Cedar Rapids, Iowa, to face Mount Mercy University on Wednesday, Dec. 1. Tip-off time will be at 5:30 p.m. for this Heart contest.
